Fitness Friday – Inspire Someone Today!

The Wii Mommies

Well, I was wondering all week what I was going to write about.  Should I *brag* about my weight loss (101 pounds in two years, baby!) or talk about dieting and exercise”?  Nothing felt right to me.  Then today happened.

I’d like to start by saying I notice a lot of people talk about how “lucky I am” or how all of these things “happen to me”.  The things that have happened to and for me happened because I work for them.  I worked HARD to lose that 101 pounds and it took TWO years.  People see me bouncing around at conventions and other assorted events and want to be skinny.  WE ALL WANT TO BE SKINNY.  WE ALL HAVE TO WORK FOR IT. IT ALL TAKES TIME.  LOTS AND LOTS OF TIME.

That’s why I’m here.  That’s why The Wii Mommies are here.  We all have to set a goal and work towards it.  I act like I’m the cream of the crop because I have to, I’m a motivator.  I just happened to be a writer.  I just happened to lose weight.  It just happened to be using the Nintendo Wii Fit and it all came together and exploded into this giant ball of awesome. It wasn’t just luck though.  It was talent, hard work and extremely good timing lol.

My job now isn’t to get thin.  I AM thin.  I have reached (actually passed) my goal and now I am making it a priority to make all of you my goal.  I can relate to EVERYONE on some level.  Trust me on this.  I know most of you who are reading this know me.  I love you for that.  I hope some new people read (and don’t hate) me, because I have the ability to find something in someone that I can totally relate to.

I’ve been young, I’ve felt old.  I’ve been sick.  I’m hopefully healthy.  I understand parenting, remember being a child and have had the same weight gaining and loss issues everyone else may have had.

In all my years working at the airport ticket counter, I realized that to calm a pissed off passenger was to find just one thing I could relate to.  If it’s about what they do, where they are going or what they are going for.  It’s about finding something to relate to and making a bond with that person.

What I want all of you to do are to get over to that website and look around.  Just see what groups there are, form new ones , get to know each other. You all have to find someone to relate to.  Not just to be a weight loss buddy, but someone you can find something in common with.  Not just because you both think you’re “fat” (I hate that word) but because you maybe have other things you can talk about.  Make friends.

I was at the bank today and sat down to open an account.  Of course, I get asked my name and all that usual stuff and then she looks up.

“Oh!  I know you!  You’re the girl who went to Miami who was on the front page of the paper!  The Wii Mom!”

Smiling, I say yep.  That’s me.  I go into a bit about the week and what I do.  I always gloss over Momspective.  Momspective is my dirty zone.  It’s me, Julie.  The Wii Mommies is where the softer side of Julie emerges.  I was where you may be now.  We may all be different shapes and sizes, but we all have the same goal.  We want to be healthy (we all WANT to be thin but we’re sticking with healthy here).  For me, it was absolutely a change in eating habits and my workout routine.  It just so happened the Wii IS my workout routine.

Even if you don’t have a Wii, it doesn’t mean you can’t come to our community.  I personally just want to find a way to get everyone who was in my previous situation into the one I’m in now.  I WAS a size 16 and I AM now a size 4.  I can in all honesty say that if it wasn’t for the constant love and support of The Wii Mommies community, I may have given up like so many of us do but I didn’t.  I remained dedicated as best I could and I achieved my goals.

Now it’s time for you to as well, but just because I’m screaming my weight loss from the rooftops doesn’t mean I can personally guide each one of you to do the same.  I need all of you to HELP me get you healthy.  You have to get on in there, make friends,  ask for help, offer advice.  You can go to the Wii Mommies profile and submit questions to us or head on over to my page (Julie Maloney lol) and ask me whatever you want and you might see that I decide to reply as a post if it’s a quetsion I think everyone might like an answer to.

I am just one gal.  Thankfully, I’m just one tiny gal.  We are all in this together.  We all want the same things.  Remember that by being a member of this community you are not only improving your health, but your support is saving the lives and health of others.  Make friends.  If it wasn’t for The Wii Mommies, I’d never have Sarah or Jenn.  I have been blessed to have so many new people enter my life that I feel so close to yet I’ve never actually met and it’s all because of the communities I’m in.  So help me help you by helping me help everyone.  Got it?
