Wii Fit Review-I lost 100 pounds

How I lost 100 pounds

I used to be a skinny girl.  I loved being a skinny girl.  When I got pregnant with my first I weighed 126 pounds.  Unfortunately, there wasn’t a buffet that could keep me down.  I was a power eater.  I just didn’t get full.  I’d only stop eating when I was sick of chewing the food.

My Life B.K. (Before Kids)

My Life B.K. (Before Kids)

I ended that pregnancy at 178 pounds and was furious with myself.  I just assumed I could eat all I want and it’d just fall right off when I had the baby.  I even nursed him a full year and was excited because I heard nursing is a workout in itself.  Well not for me.  I was starving.  Those extra calories I burned producing milk led me back to the buffet.  I was weak with hunger and because of this, my weight stayed up.

Shoot forward 2 years and I’m gearing up for my second child.  I start this pregnancy at 160 pounds.  I wasn’t too intent on losing the weight since I knew I was planning this pregnancy.  I told myself I’d watch what I ate and exercise daily.  Then I’d deliver and *POOF* – I’d be skinny.

7 months pregnant with Jake

7 months pregnant with Jake

I started off great,  and was really paying attention to my body.  I got my husband to get me a treadmill, swearing I’d walk daily and get in shape.  Wrong.  I was so sick my first trimester I could barely get out of bed.   I lost touch with my friends and neglected my poor toddler.  It was all I could do to get out of bed and drag myself to the couch.  My husband called in to work to take care of Jake when he just couldn’t sit around watching TV anymore.

Once the second trimester came around and I started feeling better, the hunger from the first pregnancy revisited itself.  I won’t go into detail but I came out of it at a whopping 220 pounds.  I couldn’t even look at myself in the mirror.  This time, the motivation was for real.

The ONLY picture I ever allowed taken (205 pounds)

The ONLY picture I ever allowed taken (205 pounds and only 7 months pregnant )

I started the South Beach Diet and really got to working out.  I did.  I had a great workout video I loved and had worked for me in the past.  I did this all religiously for a few weeks and didn’t lose a pound.  My knees hurt from the high impact aerobics and I started to lose hope.  Then came the Wii Fit.

I hadn’t ever heard of Nintendo’s Wii Fit.  We already had a Wii and I loved the interaction it provided my family.  Our team bowling was a blast.  One day,  my husband emailed me the link to the Wii Fit and tells me he thinks it would work for me.  I’m not competitive, but with my husband I have to win.  We decided to get it and see who can achieve their goals first.  His to gain and mine to lose.

Let me tell you, the first five minutes I stepped on the Wii Fit balance board, I was motivated.  If any of you are familiar with the Wii, you know that you have the ability to create a likeness of yourself, known as a “Mii.”  I loved my little Mii.  She was tall, Blond and skinny.  Imagine my surprise when I boldly stepped on the balance board my first day to get my weight and BMI assessment and my skinny little Mii starts swelling as the scale charts my weight.  Suddenly I have a chunky Mii and my BMI was way above where it should be.

julie

My husband went straight to the strength training but that all bored me.  I wanted to play games.  I tried out every single game and played them all until I unlocked them in the advanced levels.  Each day I’d log in and get weighed and that scale started to move.  All I was doing was playing games.  I was floored.  Soon, I was so good at these games I thought I’d try the yoga and strength sections.

Now, to this day I still can’t balance without being next to the wall, but eventually I devised my own workout routine and it really worked for me.  My joints weren’t sore and my body started to change.  Over the next few months, I dropped down to 160 pounds!

4 Months After I started Wii Fit, Size 12

4 Months After I started Wii Fit, Size 12 (Singing Karaoke)

I am the last person to think you could actually lose weight playing video games, but I did it.  I live for my Wii Fit.  I brag about my Wii Fit and I know I’ve been the cause of dozens people I know purchasing the Wii Fit.  When I travel out of town and can’t be with it, I do the exercises from memory or play as a guest on someone else’s.   For the first time in years, I weigh less than my husband.

Finally, I’ve found something that motivates me to work out. Your ‘coach’ in the game will notice if you skip a day and will say something to you about it.  Its a home gym and more.  There’s rhythm boxing, tightrope walking and Yoga.  You’ll know if your Yoga pose it right, because the balance board makes you center yourself and tells you where you need to be.

I’m fit using the Wii Fit and I’m glad.  I don’t have many photos of myself immediately after pregnancy with either child, which is why I posted me pregnant.  I didn’t want to get in front of the camera.  In fact, the few I posted here I didn’t want taken but was talked into it.  No one has ever been shown these photos, I only put them in to illustrate my progress.

This is more than  a product review, this is simply how I changed my life.  After years of failing workouts and miserable diets, the Wii Fit in combination with a healthy diet gave me the means necessary to achieve my goals.  I don’t even have to use the low carb diet anymore.  I trained myself to control my portions and I’ve never felt healthier.  Like my brother told me- “I fit, you fit, Wii Fit“.

One Year Later and I’m a size six (sometimes a four) and I’ve lost +/- 100 pounds (hey – it varies) from the use of both EA Sports Active and the Nintendo Wii Fit!  Check mii out!

Can’t afford the WiiFit right now, but you may have motivated me to get back to my calorie counting… I so want to at least be a size 12 again. I am not aiming for the skinny girl I once was, but I felt pretty good as the average girl.

  • Meghan says:

    You look fabulous girly!

I gained onl 30lbs with my pregnancy & dropped 40 in the 1st 2 weeks after birth.
Sadly, it all come back & then some when I returned to work b/c I was bored & ate all day. Not to mention my dh worked out of town so after E went down the night, I got down with the Oreo’s, the chocolate & the ice cream.

My sil just got a Wii Fit.
I think I will put it on my Xmas list!

  • kevin says:

I think you hit the weight loss on the head. You found an activity which you found fun. Your husband has weights, you have the wii. :)

    Great Job!!!

  • how awesome!!! i lost a ton of weight on Weight Watchers, but have been looking for a way to keep it off and keep active – i used to have a walking routine, but now the toddler wants to walk (rather than sit in the stroller) so i don’t get much of a work out :-/. five pounds has already creeped back on… we have a wii, so i know what i’ll be asking for at christmas!

    congrats on all your success!!!

  • April says:

Good job on your weight loss. I’ve been thinking about getting one of these. I’ll have to talk to the hubby about it.

  • Kathy says:

Well, I can’t say my weight gain was caused by pregnancy — I have no kids! How sad is that? My husband thinks I might do well if we had the WiiFit and now I’m starting to think he’s right, reading about your great success with it. Maybe I will tell him it’s OK to buy it for Christmas! Thanks for sharing your progress and congratulations.

  • Traci says:

You have really inspired me! Your legs are to die for!! I went to try to find a Wii Fit this morning and they are ALL out! Its the hot new Christmas Item. I think I am going to get out the tennis today and get busy! Thanks!

  • Eathan says:

Damn.. Look at those legs at Karoke! Nicely done..and Congrats!

  • Wow! You look great. Maybe I need to get a wiiFit too! I am guessing that I am back up to the weight I was when pregnant. Not a good thing. I need to lose 50 pounds.

  • Teresa says:

You are beautiful no matter what weight you’re at!

We have the regular Wii games and sports, and I have to say I work up a sweat even playing just bowling (Yeah, I’m a wimp), but I may have to convince dh that we need a Fit given your great review of it. :)

  • Mommie says:

I loved this post. We got the Wii fit right when I got pregnant with our second. I’ve been using it while pregnant and plan on using it when I’m done. Thanks for the inspiration!

  • Marilou says:

Great job! I have a treadmill that is VERY stationary. Need to get back on it… Trying to get the kids to ask for a Wii for Christmas, so maybe I’ll get the Fit to go with it! Thanks for sharing your story. I have to force myself to get into pictures with my kids, so they know I existed when they grow up.

  • Cyn says:

Consider me convinced and inspired. We’ve had our Wii for a year. I’m going to get Wii Fit this weekend. :)

Julie (love your name – hee, hee), as I was reading your story I could relate to it all! This happened to me as well, but I haven’t lost the weight…YET! I finally just bought a Wii Fit at Target last week (it’s tough to find one in stock) and told my husband we’d put it under the tree, but after reading your story…I called and told him it was being hooked up tonight cause I was going to get in shape!

I know you’ve inspired so many with this story! Thank you!

  • Barbara says:

Awesome! I want one now! The key is finding something you enjoy and can keep at, or else it never works. I was once a skinny girl and am in he process of losing 30lbs…to get back to well, not skinny but almost skinny…I am halfway there.

  • Monica says:

WOW!! You look amazing! I am so proud of you :)

  • Mum says:

Wow – you look great! I asked my DH to get me a Wii for Christmas along with the Wii fit. I blame my weight gain on menopause and quiting smoking. But It is out of control at this point. I never had to worry about my weight all these years so now I have a hard time trying to diet and excercise. You are truly an inspiration to me. Thank you for sharing!

  • gengen says:

  • Wow! Girlfriend, I am inspired!!! And I needed inspiration in this area today!

Is there a Buffy workout? You know, where you kick a bunch of vampire a$$ and then chase Spike around until you knock down a house together?

You know something tasteful like that? :)

  • Kristen says:

So loved reading this. I’m on week 2 of my Wii Fit. My little Mii got pudgy too. I am excited to read about your workouts or any tricks that you have found. I want to lose about 20 lbs. I aim for 30 min. at a time at least 5 days a week. I was never a skinny girl, but I want to get back to being a fit girl.

That’s awesome! I’ve been stalking a Wii Fit for a while, there are never any in stock. Probably even less now that it’s Christmas.

At least the treadmill at the gym has a tv…

Wow that’s very interesting. I’m glad you lost that much weight and are now healthy back again. How interesting you did while playing video games! That last pic was great.

  • I’ve heard a lot about the Wii Fit. Thanks for sharing. I’ve been trying to lose baby weight for years now too. I was skinny too before having kids. Thanks for the inspiration!

  • Cheryl says:

Absolutely amazing! That is so awesome, congrats! Hmmm, maybe I need to as Santa for a Wii Fit too!

  • Elle says:

I’ve been hoping to get one for Christmas and I’m glad to read how much you love yours! Now I’m psyched to get one.

  • Congrats on your weight loss!
I want a Wii Fit. I have played the regular Wii games at a friends house and seen the commercials for the Wii Fit. It looks fun, and its exercise, Woo Hoo. Too bad there kinda pricey, someday Ill get one. Hopefully soon, I need a fun way to exercise.

  • Candace says:

HA! My daughter’s WiiFit told me I was OBESE! I screamed even though I already knew it was true. I played a few games and I wanted one. You have confirmed. Thank you.

  • Anonymous says:

I have been thinking about buying this since I heard about it’s launch – now I am going to get it! Thanks for the motivation and sharing your story. I had always been skinny too but after a fall and getting hurt I stopped working out and have never got back into it (2 years later and 40 lbs heavier) off to go shopping

  • How cool, I really want to try this! I would love to know about the Wii a little more first, though… we don’t have one. My husband and I were thinking of getting one but we ended up getting a Playstation 3 instead (which I don’t play and don’t really love). What kinds of games do you like or your husband like on there?

  • Julie says:

We love the Wii Bowling that comes with the wii. We have a family bowling league. It’s part of ‘wii sports’ that has Bowling, Golf, Baseball, Boxing and Tennis. We LOVE Mario Kart, which has a steering wheel so you’re really driving. I downloaded My Aquarium from Wii ware and it’s a neat screen saver for your tv and you can decorate the fish tank and pick which fish you want. There’s a kick ass scuba diving game and tons more. I love anything I can interact with. Playing video games with a controller is one thing, but actually holding a controller and golfing with it is just too cool!

  • Gina says:

WOW WOW WOW!!! We have a Wii Fit. We’ve had it for a while, I was convinced I’d work out more, and I haven’t. I need to get back on it, and after hearing your story about loosing 60 lbs, now I’m more determined then ever. Perhaps I’ll start a blog about it and update it week after week doing the Wii Fit. I think my main challenge is EATING more than exercising. I just can’t stop eating all the yummy things that my body craves, and doing this during the holiday season is even harder, but I must do it. I have to do it. I’m disusted at the weight I let myself get. After my first pregnancy I ended up gaining 75lbs. HOW did I do that?!?! 2nd pregnancy I lost a few pounds but apparently over the next 3 years I’ve managed to put on more instead of loosing more.

You’re an inspiration!!! My Wii Fit is being brought back out tomorrow!

  • Wow – congratulations. Your weight loss story is awesome and inspiring. I have about 20 pounds I could lose. My hubby could stand to lose a few as well. We don’t have a Wii, but your post about the Wii Fit is very interesting – I will show it to hubby and maybe we will get one. :)

  • Kristina says:

Congrats! With my first I gained …. SIXTY pounds … breastfeeding killed off most of it, but when I stopped, my weight inched up to where I was still 20 pounds heavier than my prepregnancy weight. (at 5’2″, that’s a HELLUVA lot)

After #2 is born in April, hopefully I can get the hubby that the PS3 is just not enough, so he’ll get me a wii and wii-fit for my uh, giving birth present.

  • Anne says:

    Awesome you look great!

  • Mel says:

You’ve totally inspired me! What a fantastic story. I hate to work out; I get bored easily. I’ve been keeping my eye on the Wii Fit. It looked like fun, but now I’m convinced. I think it’s time to buy myself an early Christmas present. Thanks so much for sharing your success!

  • Maricris says:

You go girl! I’m so impressed! I think that whatever you put your mind into and believe that you can do it, you will. Congrats on such a powerful story :) Btw, was glad twittering with you last night.

Thanks for visiting my blog. Happy Thanksgiving.

  • YOU LOOK FAB!!

    Keep it up cool girl.

  • First I want to say Congrats You look amazing.

I have been debating about the Wii Fit since it came out. We almost pre-ordered it then decided not to at the last minute. thinking it was something that it really wasn’t possible or anything else. I want to say now I know that it really is and its more then just a ‘game’ but something I can really do. Its so on my Christmas list for this year :) Thanks for sharing your success with us.

  • Woo! You look hot! I gotta get one of those! I was going to ask for a laptop for Christmas (from my business acct) but I think I’ll switch to the Wii Fit and reward myself when I hit a goal.

  • M A says:

    You look great!

  • Hilary says:

I’ve been thiking that the Wii fit would be good for me too! I’m about 15 lbs from my target weight and about 5-10lbs from my wedding weight.
I wish it was as easly to lose weight as it was for my hubby!!

  • fat says:

    You just gave me hope!
I gained about 30lbs not because I got pregnant (don’t have a baby yet)but because I can’t help myself not eating all the food my eyes see, lol. Thanks for sharing, I am thinking of purchasing wii fit, too.

  • Jessica NBP says:

That’s wonderful!! I’m a size 12/14.. kind of sucks with the hips and butt my two boys gave me. We will be getting a Wii/Wii Fit in the near future.. not sure how near but soon. I played it at a friends house and loved the boxing, I was about to start sweating until we had to leave.

  • Zoey says:

    Great Story – Whaaaaaaaaa – I want a wii!

  • Shen-Li says:

That’s fantastic! Hubby bought a Wii and asked if I wanted the Wii Fit – maybe I should go get it!

I’ve been doing home workouts from DVDs but sometimes I don’t even know if my yoga or pilates poses are right or wrong. This sounds like just the thing!

  • Definitely going to get the Wii Fit now.

    You go, girl!

Great.. I need to get Wii Fit too..

SO that I can continue eating fastfood.. =D

  • Christina says:

Congrats on loosing it!! I need a little bit of your spirit and determination!!

  • Lori says:

What an awesome job! I too tried the treadmill with no luck. I started watching my calories and succeeded in losing 50 lbs before I got pregnant at 40 with my first child. I gained my 50 back and then some-now I just can not seem to get it off. I have read about the Wii and WiiFit -I may have to save up and try it! Thanks for the motivation!

OK, I’ve been seeing the buzz about the wii fit and it started me thinking maybe I should get one. But now I know for sure! Thanks for the story, I can’t wait to try it for myself!

  • Tracy says:

Wow, I admit I thought the WiiFit was gimicky but it seems to have worked for you! I need to get one, do you think my husband will mind if I take back the playstation?

  • Gramere says:

I’ve had the Wii Fit sind August 20008. I’m ashamed to say I come up with an excuse every day NOT to play with it. I’m 54 and going through menopause….the weight gain is unbelievable..I’m miserable. Hopefully this has motivated me enough to give at least 30 mins a day on Wii Fit

  • Deann says:

You look great Julie, even when you gained weight! :D i have a different dilemma, while most people try to lose weight, I try to gain and keep mine… :D I was really skinny before I got pregnant, so it wasn’t a surprise that I went back to being super skinny after my first child was born, I tried my best to gain weight but I had no such luck, until I got pregnant with my son… my son is now 9 months old, I gained 50 lbs when I was pregnant with him and was able to lose only 10 lbs after 9 months… I’m happy with my body now and I hope to keep it this way…:D

  • Great story! I have been hehawing about buying a Wii fit for my family due to the cost, but it seems like it has great potential. Your story helped make my decision.

  • Jen says:

I have wanted to get one but haven’t been able to justify the expense. You have convinced me that it is worth the expense. Thanks and you look fantastic!

  • Sandy Jenney says:

I’m excited. I just found a Wii fit yesterday (my husband is giving it to me for Christmas!..hee hee). I lost 47 pounds (50 is my goal) this last year using Jenny Craig…but I have not been routine about my working out. I am hoping my Wii fit will make it fun and I will stick to a work out and tone up. Thanks for the encouragement. My gosh you have pretty legs! I’m jealous! (Something I genetically will never have! Hee hee)

This is really inspiring! We’ve been thinking about getting a Wii for xmas, but I hadn’t thought about the Wii fit. Thanks!

  • Danette says:

That’s awesome! I gained 70 lbs with my first pg (twins) and about 40 lbs with my youngest. It took about 18 mos to get back to my old weight after my twins, and 3 yrs after my baby… but even though I am pretty much back to my old weight, I’m not exactly back to my old shape. I would love to find something fun to actually work out and get back in shape, I used to do weights but that was years ago (pre-babies) and I don’t have the time or energy for the gym these days. The wii fit sounds like fun and might be just what I need. Thanks for the info! (and you look great, btw!)

  • the Rambler says:

    Well…you look awesome!!

Isn’t it a great feeling? I too have gone from 211 down 59lbs to a size 8. I have been begging for the Wii Fit and I’m sure I would get a great workout just fighting for play time.. ;) I guess I will have to start working on hubby again to buy me one!

You have also inspired me to do a before and after…guess I will have to see if I can find any before pics…ugh!

Come on over and Ramble with me anytime!

    Julie Reply:

@the Rambler, Oh, amazing! What a wonderful job! Hard as heck, isn’t it? It’s also hard putting those pictures up. I recently found some more of me i didn’t think were taken. I’m saving them for another post though….

interesting post! I stumbled on your blog while

my weight loss calculator – I lost over 30 pounds in a month
    with a diet I developed!

    You look AWESOME!!
I just did a search for “weight lost with Wii”

I have 2 babies, 16 months and 6 months. I wore a size 2 jeans throughout both pregnancies but I am now in an unknown size but 20 lbs heavier than I started. My 6 month old came 2 months early and after 3 weeks laying in the hospital in ante-partum ward I developed an addiction to peanutbutter M&Ms :)

DH got me a 3 year gym membership 4 months ago – used 2x

This is what I want for christmas now!! :)
    Thanks for the hope!!

  • Helene says:

What an inspirational post! The important thing is to find an activity that you can have fun with for weight loss and fitness. Thanks for your contribution to my Take Charge of Your Health Care Carnival.

  • Wow!! Congratulations, that’s an awesome accomplishment. I gained 70lbs. with my first pregnancy. I thought it would all come off in labor, what was I thinking? I learned something from that and was able to keep weight gain to 30-35 each of the next 3 pregnancies. I am now back to my pre-baby weight 4 years and counting.

    Happy Holidays!

Right before I got pregnant with my son I had lost 45 pounds (it was not a healthy way… I walked a mile a day and only ate about 700 calories a day with only 100 being from fat). My son was not planned as I would’ve never put that much work into losing weight just to get pregnant a month after lol. I got down to 159 (which was amazing for me. I weighed 195 when I started trying to lose weight). I didn;t even get to enjoy being smaller because as soon as I got pregnant I used it as an excuse to eat. I weighed 221 when I delivered. I lost weight quick after having my son, but then gained it all back. I’ve been hanging out at 200 lbs for about 2 years now.
I got a wii fit and on Dec 22nd (day before my sons 3rd birthday) I tried it for the first time. I didn;t change my eating habits at first because I didn’t want to over do it for myself.
For the last week and a half I have also changed my eating, along with doing my wii fit for a minimum of 40 min a day, but usually closer to an hour. Since I first stepped on my wii I have lost 9 pounds! I havne’t been able to shed ANY weight in such a long time. My goal is to be down to 159 by the summer. I actually LOVE doing my fit and feel wrong about even *thinking* of skipping a day! I have went back to a low calorie/fat diet, but not as bad as I was before. I KNOW the wii fit is going to be that tool that just helps me acheive my goals and after reading your post, it just confirms my thoughts! Thanks for posting!

My Dad bought a Wii Fit so we could all have a go at it over Christmas. It’s amazing! I’ve been trying to get my hubby to workout since forever and this is the first time I didn’t even have to say anything! We’ve got this competitive thing going and he just has to have his name on the high score so I get him back on it just by beating his score.

It’s so fun I feel like I’m just playing rather than working out! Now we really need to get one for our place!

Thanks so much for sharing this. We have a Wii fit and I do enjoy it, but I just haven’t been motivated…wondering if it really was a workout and I was burning enough calories. This is just the motivation I need to get back on track of doing it daily. Thanks again.

  • Heidi says:

I’m so happy to find this website. I LOVE my Wii Fit and think everybody should have one! I have never felt this motivated. We have had it about a month now and I haven’t missed a day. I’m really bummed though because I’ve lost 10 lbs and we have lost all the progress twice! Once my son accicently deleted everything (including all his hard won progress in various games) and then the other night, I was almost done a workout and it said all the data on Wii Fit was corrupted and lost! I wanted to cry. So now, yesterday I had to start all over again. I’m not giving up though…I refuse. I’m in this for the long haul! Great job Julie!

  • Well how inspirational Julie. I had not read this story yet. I’m working on a Get Fit blog roll over on my blog and popped over here.

In HS I was 130 lbs, got married and went up to 165, and by the end of my pregnancy I was almost 200 lbs. I’m using my site kind of like a food journal hoping it will motivate me to eat less.

Thanks for the inspiration

  • Pam says:

    Hi Julie,

I listened to you on The Blogstop.com with Susan Sohn. I was really motivated and went out and bought the WiiFit on Monday. You were on her show again Tuesday and I told you I would let you know how I liked it. I’ve only used it 2 days and I absolutely love it! I feel better already. Got up this a.m. and took a long walk, listened to Susan’s show and used it jor almost 2 hrs! I also add some bowling along with it or one of the other. I love it when I get new games to play. I love the Hula Hoop. I like most of it. I really need to work on my breathing though. Hard to breath in and out my nose.

I’m also really watching what I eat very closely. I’ve always battled my weight since having kids. I’m now 52. My last one is almost gone and I’m determined more than ever to loose as much as I can. I would like to loose 50, but right now the Wii stopped me at 30 lbs.

Just wanted to let you know it’s great what you’ve done and the example to others!
I’m looking forward to hearing about the new program.

    Blessings!

    Pam

    Julie,
I am no longer a young Mommy, I am 53 and my 3 sons are past 21 yrs. I bought the WiiFit in November after Thanksgiving and gave up on it after the first week. I revisited it today, 6 mos. later and my chubbyMii tells me I have gained 16# and close to obese with a BMI near 29. I am so down and need someone in my face pushing me to exercise. I need an exercise buddy and am looking online to find someone in the Wii community to guide me. I am impressed with your results but know I have a much older body.
My goal is to lose the 16 # over the next 8 weeks so when we go back to Florida in July, I can actually have the courage to put a swim suit on. I live in Ohio, belong to 2 health clubs but am too embarrassed to go until I can fit back into my size 8 work out clothes! I am sadly up to size 14 and am only 5 ft tall!
Can you connect me with a routine and a buddy to motivate me?

  • I *really* need to find a way to get one of these! We just had our first weekend getaway in years and in one of the pics we took I look like I weigh 500 pounds! I weigh about 200 and horrible in pics so I avoid the camera 99% of the time. I need to lose weight and get healthy but I absolutely hate exercise and lately my diet will power hasn’t been there either. Maybe next year I can use some income tax money to get a Wii… I love video games… so maybe this will the answer for me as well.

I get up every morning before I wake the kids up for school and try to do at least 30 minutes. I love that it keeps track of my weight and my BMI. It keeps that little graph that shows me my progress and allows me to set goals. The only thing I wish Nintendo would do is create an online way to share your graphs and goals. So that people who have similar goals can encourage and even compete with each other. I’d love to meet people who can out hoola hoop me!

Thank you so much for sharing this story. I am a 24 year old mother of 3 and well I had pretty much given up hope for myself on ever feeling good about myself again. I had gone up 10 212 lbs with my last pregnancy, after having my son I went down to 194 only..and have been stuck in this rut for almost 2 years. I have lost all confidence in myself and dont even bothering trying to make myself look good anymore…I dress in jogging pants and my fiancee shirts and sweaters constantly. It hurts me to even say this let alone look at myself…knowing that I used to be a fairly attractive girl at one time in my life. I am scared of having my fiancee walk away from me if I don’t get out of this rut soon. So therefore I really appreciate you putting this on here for all of us to see…and I hope so much that this will work for me…actually I am praying. So therefore I am thankful to you for letting us see your progress on here and letting ppl like me know that there is hope for us too!!! Congrats on getting your life back!!!

  • Tibby says:

I saw the application for the Wii fit program (though I didn’t apply because I already own a Wii) on twitter and that led me here. And honestly, I expected to find another happy, positive mommy blog telling me what to do to be a better mommy too. I have to say that what I found wasn’t that at all. I cried reading your post because my struggle with weight is the heaviest burden and I have been (unwillingly) in photos that others cherish, but I am horribly ashamed by. Gaining weight happened because of illness and medication– which led to more weight gain when I got depressed from getting bigger. I need to lose 70 pounds. And I am so discouraged because I feel like I am just too big and too lazy.

I am so impressed that you took the initiative and were able to conquer your weight. You look great and I am both in awe and envy of you. Congratulations. And thank you for sharing your story.

    Julie Reply:

Oh yeah, my initial weight loss story is on here and I try to dedicate Fridays on this site to health and fitness (in the category section) but there are 1000′s of blogs telling people how to be a better mommy. That’s not my business to tell. I think we all parent as we see fit and there are so many different ways to parent, I try not to advise on that so instead I have fun and go crazy.

This is so encouraging. I gained 20lbs AFTER the pregnancy. I have both Wii Fit and EA Sports Active. Thank you for this inspirational story.

You look fantastic! Congrats! I had to find an unorthodox work out too. My son and I play an hour’s worth of Tennis at the local middle school almost every day. I’m so competitive that I find I HAVE to do it. I may have to get Wii fit for rainy days though. Sounds awesome.

You look absolutely gorgeous!!! sooooo jealous. 14 years later after having my son-I’m done with peeps asking if I’m pregnant, feeling bloated and fat! I began working out this week and need to lose 60 lbs also. I weight 187 and want go down to 127. My son also is going to do this with me so I hope and pray we lose all the extra weight and I look as skinny as you soon enough. I used to weigh 117 and be a body builder. Thanks for your inspiration!

I just did a search for Wii Fit lose weight and found this! I just bought the Wii Fit Plus (I’m late on the bandwagon) and hope I lose as much as you did!!

  • JustNoticed says:

You shouldn’t feel bad about gaining so much weight during your first pregnancy, after reviewing your post I noticed in the second picture you have Paula Deen looking over your shoulder. Girl you never had a chance. Really though good job, I just got a WII Fit for my 4th anniversary and was searching for success stories and found yours. Hopefully I’ll be as successful as you were!

  • skyeee says:

Thank you so much for this! I’ve been having god awful post partum depression, a lot attributed to my weight especially since iI hated my weight post pregnancy, let alone popping a little ball of Sunshine out. Tommarow I’m purchasing my wii & wii fit and this gives me much hope that I will actually be able to do something about it. Attempting to get to the gym with a 3 month old is near immposible and since im aa stay at home mom this seems like a godsend. I’m just praying I can stick to it :) thank you for sharing, even the belly pictures
a little ray of skinny hope appears!

Let me know if I can help you out in any way. If you want cardio, the game has a jogging feature that works, especially if you lift your knees high. If you want to trim your waist, do the hula hoop until you unlock the advanced. Then you’ll have 10 minutes of intense workout. For an easier way to get through it, watch a show on your iPad, makes that 10 minutes go by easier!

  • Jenna says:

Wow, I’m really glad you posted this! I just started really using my Wii Fit Plus, and I was curious to see if there were any testimonials from users about their fitness. I have no children, but I have about the same weight loss goal as you do. I also looked at your diet plan and was very encouraged by it! When I saw you said your weight loss was combined with diet I was immediately disappointed, imagining it to be some costly, miserable program… but portion control is something I’ve heard about before and is something I’m very interested in trying!

Hi! I know this post is several years old but I am so happy to have found it! There just seems to be a lot of negative reviews of wii fit plus out there (mostly from fitness gurus I’m assuming) who have tried it and have written it off in terms of being a weight loss tool. So this is very inspirational! I just got the wii fit plus a week ago and I love it! In terms of your long term fitness, do you still use wii fit to stay in shape? And do you think you could have lost the weight with just wii fit or was EA Sports Active a crucial part of your routine?

Thanks again for this inspirational and positive post!

    Julie Maloney Reply:

EA Sports Active was a great way for me to help keep my shape but it was VERY difficult to d, I found the flow of the Wii Fit was easier for me to stick with and is credited with the bulk of my weight loss and is still currently the only weight loss tool I use and I’m happy to stay I’ve stayed trim and fit the entire time since I’ve lost the weight! So glad you found me!

  • Vanden says:

Julie, I am totally inspired by your story so much that I just went out today and purchased the Wii console and Wii Fit Plus! I have a gym membership but I really hate the gym….always have. I had tried just the wii before at a friends and it was fun. After seeing your pictures, I am determined to do Wii fit Plus and get in the best shape of my life before my 40th Bday this july. I have 30lbs to lose. Thank you for your story, being a positive role model and giving us hope that it can be achieved. All the best, Vanden:)

You done so good on your weight loss, great job. I need to get motivated and lose some myself. After you pass age 50 it gets harder and harder to lose.

  • Jean says:

You are an inspiration! I was fortunate not to gain a lot during my pregnancies, but taking care of kids and working full time has meant that I don’t take time for myself to exercise (or when I actually have some time I’m too tired!) and I have lost a lot of my muscle tone. I think the key to getting regular exercise when you’re a super busy mom is to find something that’s fun. Sounds like you found it with Wii Fit!

  • samantha s says:

omg this is so inspirational. i was just going to trade out my wii today and now reading this i’m going to reconsider. i’m actually expecting my 4th baby now and i’m small anyways but i would love to have your abs. i know this is an old post but wow, its really encouraging.

THIS IS AWESOME! Ok, I have a similar story with the weight gain. I’m severely short and am weighing in at 140lbs right now but with all my pregnancies I stopped weighing at 175lbs and am not sure how much I got up to. Just lost 10lbs in the last 4 months and am at a standstill… literally and figuratively. LOL Need to find some way to exercise not just the cutting portions stuff. Might have to try the Wii Fit. :) woot woot! Thanks for being an inspiration!!!!!

    You are a major inspiration!!
After 2 years of being with my boyfriend, and becoming overly comfortable and just lounging out together and doing whatever we wanted, we both noticed we were gaining weight! Bummer! 70lbs! Ugh! I was telling him how much I hated it, and how much I in turn hate the gym. He bought me the wii fit plus thinking I might enjoy it.
I’ve only just started. I am starting an hour a day, doing some stretches, the runs, boxing, hula. Keeping it fun to start. I also started a 30 day crunch challenge which I do prior to my wii work outs.
I was curious to see if there were any ‘real’ success stories using the wii fit. After coming across yours, I am now even more motivated! Your story is so inspirational! Your pictures are amazing!!! I’m pumped to keep going at this. We have been trying to get pregnant the last couple months, so I’m stoked to be able to start getting back to my old weight beforehand, and stay healthy throughout and after the pregnancy!

  • Stephanie says:

Wow that’s amazing. I guess I need to invest in a wii fit. We have a wii but I never got the wii fit.

  • MikeM says:

Great to read this even if it is six years later. I bought an old wii from a garage sale this summer that included the balance board and the original wii fit. This new years I weighed more than I ever have before. I made a resolution to slowly steadily loose weight and get fit. I have been using and enjoying the game for 10 days of so now.

To tell you the truth I was surprised to read that you were still using the fit routines months and years later, but all the better.

It is the first time I have exercised (other than yard work, walking, and climbing stairs) in about 3 years. I am about where it sounded you started out 230 or 240. Lucky for me I’m a 6 foot tall man, and I will be happy If I’m at or just below 200 next January.

It was great hearing of your success.

I’m expecting to want to move to something else in a few months. I plan to get wii fit plus soon. Any other wii exercise you have tried (whether you liked them or not).

Thanks again for your inspiring story,

    Julie Maloney Reply:

Wii FIt Plus is exactly the same as the Wii Fit only with an added section with more games. I usee it but I stick to the traditional routines I got from the original Wii Fit. If you’re looking for a more intense workout there is EA Sports Active and EA Sports Active More Workouts. Those are legit workouts. I like the lower intensity of the wii fit but if you want to feel like you have a personal trainer EAS is the way to go.
