My First Day On The Wii Fit Plus

wii-fit-plus

Well, then!  Who knew I was so out of shape?  Surely not me!

Oh, wait…yes I did.

Over the past three months, I’ve kept in shape as best I could.  With surgeries, sickness and depression (along with A LOT of traveling), I just haven’t been the best Wii Mommy I could be.  I was fortunate to be able to track my daily steps (and still do) using Nintendo’s Personal Trainer: Walking and I’d hop on the Wii Fit to stretch out or get a quick hula in when I could, but other than my nightly walking to train for the EA SPORTS Active 5k I’ll be doing in November, I just haven’t been myself.

In the past 508 days since I’ve started on the Wii Fit, virtual fitness has become my life.  I lost 60 with the original Wii Fit, an additional 10 with EA SPORTS Active and have kept the weight down and helped my body recover from major abdominal surgery with Personal Trainer: Walking for the Nintendo DS.  I think that’s partly why I’ve been so depressed and down on myself lately – I’ve lost my routine.

Thankfully, my fitness inspiration is coming back to me.  School has started and I’m finally adjusting to the new routine that is my daily life and with that, my fitness routine is starting to re-form itself as well.  The new Wii Fit Plus arrived at my door yesterday and immediately following the happy dance I did, I got slapped across the face with a killer migraine that put me down until 10 this morning, so I didn’t get to work out.

This afternoon, all that changed.

I decided it’d be fun to host the Wii Mommies Blog Talk Radio Show while I tested the Wii Fit Plus for the first time.  I had Jenn on the line cheering me on and our great friend and faithful #wiimoms supporter, superstar Amy G., called in to coach me as I checked out the newest games for the first time.

I can’t believe after only clocking in eight minutes of actual workout time (between my talking and messing everything up) I can FEEL a difference!  Not only in my calves, which the Segway really worked out, but my core muscles from my old favorite, the Hula Hoop and the newest challenge, the Obstacle Course!

I had people laughing at (with?) me as I got hit with giant balls I tried to avoid in the course and as I smashed into the fence when I was SUPPOSED to be hitting the lights as I attempted to skateboard.  I leaned forwards and back as I tried to coordinate both the Wii Remote and my legs on the balance board as Amy coached me through how to do the Segway challenge and I made it approximately five yards until my bubble burst in the new version of one of my favorite Wii Fit balance games.

I truly love this new product.  I think it’s something you can do when you’re looking to have a good time by yourself of with friends, and you can do it while you’re on the phone – or better yet, Skype with a friend and do it together!  After just a few minutes of laughing and trying to master the games I hadn’t played in a while and the new ones I never tried before, I can feel the difference in both my physical and emotional state and I’m already looking forward to playing more this afternoon!

I invite everyone to join us next Friday on our show, where we’re encouraging all the proud owners of the Wii Fit and/or Wii Fit Plus to call in or join us in the chat room so we can all work out together.  You can talk, tweet or type between or even during games, if you’re THAT talented (which I, apparently, am NOT) and we can all have a good time getting fit together!  Hope to see you there!
