Wow, Do I Love Being A WAHM

This past week, I spent some time in an office building. I spent some time in a factory. I spent some time at home.
I love being at home.
I’d like to formally apologize to my husband. I’ve often found myself jealous of the time he spends away from home. He goes to work each day and doesn’t have the sounds of children wailing, fighting and trying to con candy out of him. He can close his door and savor the silence. When he gets home, I need to clock out of my job.
You see, I’m a Work At Home Mom (WAHM). I wasn’t always. I’ve had jobs. Lots of jobs. I’ve worked at the pet store at the mall, as a bank teller at a credit union and in the airline industry for years before quitting to stay at home and raise my children.
I’ve always planned on being a writer. I had no idea how I’d get back into it (I first started working as a published writer at the age of 14) but I knew once my kids were letting us sleep at night, I’d be back at the computer. I’d started about three books and will eventually finish one of them, but once I discovered blogging, my whole world changed.
I can write naked. I can write in sweats. I can write everything for the week all in one day, or not write at all. I love to share my life, I love to express myself. I actually consider myself more of a humor writer as opposed to a “Mommy Blogger”, but I like being called that because that title holds a lot of power. Mom’s have the power.
I started blogging with the intent to make this my career. I did not start it as a personal blog, I started with business in mind. You see, all blogs are is an online magazine. If you have great content and can work your own PR and HTML, you can make a modest living from writing.
I love it. I love what I do. I don’t write for money (but it helps) – I write for popularity. I love being known, I love helping others and I freakin’ love to talk. I talk with my hands much better than with my mouth. I need to be loved. Maybe because I’m the youngest of four and have craved attention my entire life, I have never appreciated anything more.
I’m not going to give advice on blogging here, I’m just here to say I freaking love my job. I’ve been told not to talk about it much, because in this economy there are people struggling and I am clearly bragging, but today I just want to brag. I won’t speak out loud and I’ll try not to shake my groove thing, I just wanted to thank the world for allowing me to occasionally sleep in, not have a commute and not have to clock in.
Fuckin’ A, I love my job.

You are definitely an inspiration! I am slowly starting in that way, and currently just have my place, and working part-time for the wonderful site I work for. But I know that I have much to learn, much popularity to gain, and many, many more things to write!

Amen to that sister. I love my job too…only I make squat at blogging, lol. I would LOVE to have a lot more time to devote to it and make more of a serious effort, but I just feel I’m constantly pulled in so many directions and I take guilt trips often.
Kudos to you for doing what you love and making it work!

Keep rockin’ the blog

A. you deserve to brag, and B. I can only aspire to be as cool at you at blogging, and C. I have actually taken classes to be a writer and can’t get off my lazy, scared, whatever butt to JUST DO IT!!!! (children’s books that is). I actually have an “official” WAH job in a virtual call center, and I am with you. I will take my days of hating that my husband can escape, for the fact that I work in my pajamas, take days off when my kids need me, and I can hear their sweet voices ALL DAY LONG (okay, and I will admit, sometimes if I hear them crying I “pretend” to work while I blog just a bit longer!) Girl, one day you and me need to get together, we are one in the same. Hmmm. maybe we would hate each other then? Please don’t tell me you are a scorpio.

It’s okay to give yourself a well deserved pat on the back. You make us laugh and tell it like it is. Being honest in your writing when the whole world is reading is NOT an easy thing to do. You’ve mastered the art and deserve what you’ve gotten.

I think it is so awesome that the internet has given parents an opportunity to work at home in this way. I complain about being a SAHM sometimes and never getting a break but like you said when it comes down to it, I can sleep in if I want or lay on the couch all day if I’m sick. Or play outside with my daughter and bask in the warm beautiful sun. I can go shopping during the week, go to the bathroom in my own house, play princess dress up with my daughter, take her to the museum, did I mention play with my daughter??? Yes it is a blessed life.
