Update-Fantasy Football Challenge

Well, these ladies are making me proud already!

When I first challenged myself to this fantasy football league, I honestly didn’t know what to expect. I had a general idea-women who’re not into football could learn to at least tolerate it or even end up LIKING it. I figure by playing against each other, we can learn about the players and positions and make friends in the process, as some of us are strangers to each other.

Initially, when I asked women to learn this, I didn’t think of the husband aspect. As I started talking to everyone who joined, I noticed some of them mentioning asking their husbands for advice. My initial reaction was conflicted. I wanted us to empower ourselves to learn this on our own. Then it dawned on me-this was PERFECT! The whole reason I even started this was so we could make Sundays more tolerable for us. Give us a reason to bond with our husbands and turn watching football into a family affair. We’re already getting to the end results and it’s barely week one!

I’m happy to hear about the women of this league spending time with their extremely supportive husbands playing this together. I’m also hearing that the husbands love the initiative being taken by us showing a genuine interest in something they care so much about.

I’m not saying all husbands love football, or saying that no women do. I know plenty of women who genuinely love football and some who love football simply because it guarantees them some alone time on the weekend while their husbands watch. I’m merely trying to help the women who WANT to like it so they can spend more time with their spouse, as I did.

I’ll keep everyone posted as the season continues. I’ve asked everyone in the “Momspective Kick Off” Fantasy league to update me on their thoughts and feelings as this progresses, and encouraged them to write posts of their own for me to include in this category. Thank you all for your support and wish us all luck as we kick off week one in the NFL!

As a husband (yours) I think this is a great idea. I have always loved football, and fully expect my 2 boys to play professionally as my retirement depends on that. But ever since you have taken such an interest in the game I find myself enjoying it much more. It feels much more enjoyable to watch the game (I’m told other teams play on Sunday too, but I’m certain that only the Panthers game really counts) with someone who is s excited and knowledgeable as me about it. It sure beats what I’m sure many other caring husbands must be feeling, as I’d assume they would have a little nagging feeling that they should use Sundays more for family and not totally for themselves. So this is just a great scenario and I hope more guys get to experience it.
