Fitness Friday: Me Vs The Dog
That’s it. I’m DONE. I am a WII MOMMY! I will get up off my hiney and look hot at Blogher!
I know, I know. I just had a complete hysterectomy and triple pneumonia, you say. To that I say PA-SHAW.
I’m kidding. I don’t. What happened to me was horrifying and I hope to never be that sick again. In just the past few weeks, I had a cyst rupture that caused me immense pain that seemingly kicked my endometriosis into high-gear and subsequently landed me the hysterectomy. Poor hospital care slapped some pneumonia on me and now my life has taken a whole new turn. It all happened very fast and it was totally unexpected.
That said, I obviously haven’t been working out. I wasn’t even getting off my couch. My legs are shaky when I get up and I just feel OLD. Something has to be done.
Besides wanting to find a way to personally thank each and every one of you for getting me through this, I want to get in shape. I’m lucky I went into this thin. I love that I can call myself thin. OMG. I’m thin.
That said, I don’t feel FIT. I’m covered in bruises and I gave gotten so used to getting on my Wii that I feel lost without it. I’ve been told no exercise for 6 weeks, but I have to find a way to challenge myself.
That’s when it hit me. I have Personal Trainer: Walking! OF COURSE! No one told me I couldn’t WALK. I wrote a review of the product a few weeks ago then got all caught up in my own emotional and physical drama and now I realize I have this wonderful resource right at my fingertips.
Starting today, I’m putting myself to the test. Personal Trainer: Walking for the Nintendo DS comes with 2 Activity Meters and to make my journey to good health a good time, I’m going to challenge my black lab, Tribute (he’s not the greatest dog in the world, he’s a Tribute). Let me tell you, that dog is LAZY. He is fat and he is lazy.
Each day when I wake up, I’m going to put the activity meter on both me and my dog. When I go to Syracuse next week, my husband has implicit instructions to put a meter on the dog as soon as he lets him out. I’m going to input my info into my DS and my husband will input my dog’s into our DSi and I’m going to see what the two of us are up to.
My personal goal is to see the number of steps I take each week increase. I’m just adding my dog in because I think it’s super cute to have him by my side through all of this, and he needs to trim a little off his waistline, too. Little by little, my health is improving and until I get permission to get back on my Wii, I intend to keep everyone updated on my journey back to good health with my Personal Trainer: Walking, my dog and my Nintendo DS.

Good thinking! You’re so a lemon/lemonade person! I like that. Good luck to you & your dog
You amaze me Julie, with your strength and determination to be fit in spite of the obstacles. This came just at the right moment for me. If you wouldn’t mind reading my current post you’d see my frame of mind and understand.
I may not have the walking game, or a ds for that matter, but I can walk. Just as soon as I get released from the hospital, I can walk. Thank you for the reminder.

You are unstoppable! WooHoo!
I’ll be back on the Wii Mommy Bandwagon next week – and I’m looking forward to it, I’ve missed the interaction very much!
I’ve been a good girl whilst on vacation, though, I’ve been eating right (and not overdoing it on the yummy stuff), and have been drinking more water this past week than I have all year…so I’ll be in a good place to get back on the bandwagon after we get back next week!
Please take it easy, though – don’t push yourself too hard…like you said, you’re already THIN, so you’re gonna look HOT at BlogHer already!
Wish I were going!

Walking is the best medicine for you right now. What about weights, can you use weights, or a resistance band (like the one that came with EA Active)?

What a great idea – if you can’t Wii – it’s better to start somewhere like walking until you can get back on the Wii. Love the idea to put one on your doggie. I’d be in trouble with our “fur child” aka 70 pound Pit Bull named Iris, who doesn’t know the idea of walk – just run, that’s why hubby runs with her each morning.
Wow! You’re doing that after major surgery and being extremely sick??!! I am healthy and have no excuses and I’ve not done a lick of exercises in the past half a year. You put me to total shame. You da woman!
Love and hugs!!

I’ve seen this advertised and wondered about it. I like hearing what all it can do and I like it being portable where the Wii is not.

I had to have a hysterectomy in December because of severe endometriosis. The recovery sucked a bit (like I’d been hit by a truck) so I can’t imagine having had pneumonia on top of it.
There’s so many challenges in dealing with the emotional aspects and physical aspects as well and I think it’s SO great you’re doing the wii mommy fitness challenges. I’m so sorry all of this happened to you. *hugs*

Take it easy! You have to give yourself time to heal. You could pop a stitch or staple or something. And take it from me, you really don’t want to mess with the healing. I had to see a wound care nurse because my incision wasn’t healing. Turned out a stitch got left behind. It took 4 months for my incision to close. It was not pretty.
On a brighter note, if you have a moment while you are convalescing, please stop by Lin’s Duck and Wheel With String to vote for me, in her First Official Dork-Off Contest. Vote for my photo, because my kindergarten photo is THE dorkiest.

That is such a cool idea! My hubby bought me the DSi for our anniversary. I may have to get this game and we can challenge each other. I can have one pedometer and he can have the other.
You amaze me! The way that you have come through all that happened in the last two weeks is amazing.
Good luck!

Good luck with using the Personal Trainer. Seems like a great idea. Very sorry to learn about the health care you received at the earlier hospital. Glad to know that you are better now, and hoping that you recover completely very soon. All the very best for your health
