My E3 Adventure

Julie Maloney Cool Mom Guide LLC (Momspective) went to E3

Yep.  That’s my badge.  The name of my corporation is Cool Mom Guide LLC, in honor of my original blog name and from that I DBA as Momspective and The Wii Mommies.  THAT makes me cool enough to get invited to E3.

So I went.

The past week has been filled with so much shit, I have about a month of material locked in the vault bagging to be released, but I’m going to start with my E3 experience.  I’m not going to get too much into the games themselves at this point, although I will be talking about them on The Wii Mommies website.  I’m giving you a general overview of what that Expo was like for me.

The stories of my flights there and back are completely different blog posts.  Some of the people I met and things I thought about and did will be talked about later on in the upcoming weeks because for some unknown reason, E3 changed my life.

Not the Expo itself, that was just bad-ass.  The entire 36 hour trip I took to LA and back changed me somehow.  Again, those posts are for another time.  I’m just going to walk you through what it’s like to be a regular gal at a MAJOR event.

I am not a hard core gamer.  I am a virtual fitness enthusiast (because real-life fitness bores me) and I play games on the Nintendo Wii and DS.  I play a lot of games but I don’t retain information the way others do.  I basically don’t retain information.  I can tell you your birthday and remember your parents phone number if we grew up together, but my mind glosses over most things because it has enough going on in it already.

It all started with me going to the Nintendo Press Conference.  I don’t really have to talk about that, because if you go to that site it actually has the entire presentation and then some listed for you.  I know some people (Matt) thought  it was lame, but being there actually made a difference.  Seeing the God of Nintendo, Shigeru Miyamoto, was gift enough.  That man is the reason for every major game ever created – Mario, Donkey Kong, Zelda – he is Nintendo.

Shigeru Miyamoto

I also loved the Nintendo 3DS demo.  Again, if you didn’t get to see it live and in person it wouldn’t be the same but that machine is going to kick some serious ass.  You can watch movies, play games (Resident Evil in 3D.  No shit.), and even take a picture in 3D, all without the need of glasses.

Following the presentation I headed on over to the Expo down the street.  I really don’t like being alone but at the same time hate being tethered to anyone because I’m a wanderer and all the fun, crazy shit happens to me when I’m alone.  So basically, I freak out easily enough but it usually works out for the best.

As soon as I walked in there, I went directly to the wrong location.  I stood in line for quite some time to find that out.  After being told that I needed to walk about four miles to the Media Registration area, I headed in whatever general direction a person would point me to (I get easily distracted in large crowds full of people dressed like video game characters).  I found the media area and realized that I was considered the cool kid in class.  Media got free food.

Would have been good to know going in, because I was famished and all I had on me was a packet of ketchup and a Xanex and that had to take me from six that morning until about 11:15 when I saw a food court that had a fry I could add the rest of my ketchup to.

Around noon, I grabbed a free sandwich from the Media center and stashed as many goodies as I could into my bag so I could completely forget about them for hours.  Really wish I made a mental note that they were there, because I pushed myself to the point of delirium and it was hours before I made love to the danish I found.

That damn thing saved my life.  I was just walking around the Expo, talking to various people and companies and I swear if that place wasn’t already filled with some serious freaks, they’d have called for help.  I was so tired and so hungry until that Danish was found in my bag I know I was stopping mid-sentence and just staring blindly at random people.  It’s okay, though.  Like I said, I found the danish, found a drink (free beer – another story, different post) and here’s proof shit was weirder than I was -

I have NO IDEA what the hell this was about, but I recorded it.

I have tons of pictures, video and stories that are going to give us weeks of viewing pleasure and shit happened to me that somehow changed me.  It wasn’t any one person, place or thing.  It was me being forced to sit still on a quiet plane for 5 hours while everyone else slept.  I don’t sleep without heavy doses of “Shut the fuck up” pills, so the hours I spent processing the trip took me in all kinds of different creative angles.

So many, in fact, that this post has gotten too long to continue.  I know I didn’t really tell you anything about the Expo, but like I said.  It’ll all come in due time.  Take tomorrow, for instance.  I’ll be picking up where I’m leaving off here which is basically nowhere.  Gaming-wise, I’m going to start to re-vamp The Wii Mommies.  I think we need to take that site to a new level.  We’re all parents for the most part in there and while we need to make sure fitness is our number one goal, I want to start incorporating sections for other games as well.  That way we can have a resource for age appropriate Wii (and probably some DS) games for our families.

I’m going to stop writing this and head over there to do some of that now.  I have no issue with the randomness of this post.  Expect more of this from me.  I feel like I’ve been too structured lately because some douchebags made me feel like I wasn’t good enough but I realized that’s what douchebags do, so I’m going to write whatever the fuck I want, when I want and I’m going to write it the way I want to.

So there. :P
