Mom Bloggers
I’m going to start by saying I was the biggest blog skeptic out there. I didn’t exactly know what a blog was, nor did I particularly care. One of my best girls, Sarah, is a big time blogger. She has one herself and reads TONS of them. I didn’t see the point. The way I saw it, I only wanted to know what was happening in my friend’s lives and since they tell me themselves, why should I read about it as well? I always looked at posted pictures and even have a Blogspot blog to post pictures to send to family, but really never read anything.
That’s why when it was suggested to me that I start a blog, I was skeptical. I don’t even read what I write, why would anyone else? I started asking questions and found out blogs aren’t just boring day to day posts (well, some are) but most are informative, entertaining reads.
I was told blogs are “where it’s at”. With all the resources at your fingertips, why read magazines or buy newspapers? I don’t think they’ve necessarily taken attention away from the printed word, but it has definitely opened up the opportunity for writers like myself to get out there and try to be heard (read?).
I can not believe the amount of Mom Blogs out there. A friend sent me links to some popular blogs so I could get a better idea of how to go about writing and designing my site. I was overwhelmed. My first thought was that there is no way I’d get a single reader. Women in general can be catty (it’s true), and I assumed it would be a competitive market. I had no idea how wrong I was.
When first starting out, I sent some emails out to some of the more popular blogs asking for advice. I didn’t really even expect a reply so I was thrilled when I heard from Liz Thompson of This Full House. Not only did she give me great advice, referencing me to her FAQ section, but she even helped me design my site’s button.
Karen Knapstein from Mom Central offered to call to advise me and offered words of encouragement. Once I started blogging, I joined all the networking groups like twitter, twitter moms, The Mom Bloggers Club and more and have made friends I truly care for, even though I’ve never even talked to any of them in person or on the phone.
Whether it’s an award from Meghan’s Mindless Muttering, supportive comments from friends like Teresa or recognition from My Signs Of Life, sighting Momspective as one of the Blogs that Rock, the continuing support and encouragement I’ve received form the mom blogging community continues to amaze me. We Stumble, Technorati and comment to encourage each blogger to continue to make a difference.
What I’ve come to realize is that no matter how different each one of us are, we all have one central thing in common-we’re mothers. We all have something different to say and there is so much to learn. I have yet to encounter any competition or hostility, it is in fact quite the opposite. These Bloggers want to trade links, share stories and continue to encourage and support each other.
So this is my thank you, to each and every one of you. You have made me feel like a welcome member of this wonderful community and more than that, you’ve all become my friends. I look forward to many more years of writing, sharing and reading with all of you.

As a someone who’s new to the blogging world, I’m experiencing much of what you’ve written and it’s just fab. Making new friends and getting loads of advice and info every day.
It takes a village to raise a child. Thank goodness that in this busy world, with so little time to chat over the fence, we have blogs to share communal learning and resources. Thanks for the reminder of why I love blogging, and Mommy Bloggers!

I’m not a mom…just a very unconditional loving father, as is Julie’s husband Ryan; but I know for a fact that Julie is an awesome mom, which she no doubt gets in part from her mother, and Julie is an articulate blogger… wonder where she gets that? Heh.
Great post Julie! I always loved the idea of blogging, I think it reminded me of writing a diary as a child/teen. But it was only recently I realized all the potential in blogging, for friendships, for networking, to help me keep my sanity!! Take care!
