Let’s Get Literal

I’ve talked about this with my husband but since it just happened to apply to a situation again today, I thought I’d take the time to tell you how many times I’ve taken common sayings and said them in the literal.

Eariler today, I was trying to change Joshua’s nasty dirty diaper when Jake comes running up from behind me and jumps on me. Frustrated, I hear myself saying “Get off my back!” and that made me think about other things I’ve found myself saying that I’ve once said figuratively and now say literally to my children.

Of course, my son used to always instist on locking himself in the coat closet for fun and would refuse to come out for dinner, so I’ve natrually said, “Jake, it’s time to come out of the closet”, which had my husband giggling like a school girl.

Come to think of it, I’ve used quite a few phrases-

Throw in the towel

Monkey See, monkey do

Monkey See, monkey do

Safely In Numbers

Safety In Numbers

Basket Case

Basket Case

Add insult To Injury

Add insult To Injury

Face the Music

Face the Music

And finally, because i have to go cook dinner…

Can't see beyond One's Nose

Can't see beyond one's nose

You know, looking through all the pictures I have, I could go on like this for days. Take some time to look through your old family pictures with these thoughts and sayings in mind and see what you find. Feel free to share them with me and I’ll post them, email your pics with their saying and your name and location to Julie@Momspective.com

Stay cool!
