The Time Is Nigh – Last Chance To Get’Cho Fantasy On

football boys 002

Fantasy FOOTBALL.

…Pervs.

I am SO excited right now. I created the Momspective Fantasy Football Training League on ESPN.com and tweeted it a few weeks ago but went to Syracuse and figured no one registered. I JUST got home and went to go look to invite people and found the league to be full! I’ve decided to keep creating more until every woman who wants to learn the art of the game have had the chance to register. The only catch is that it has to be done before Saturday, September 12, 2009, because the pre-season is just about over and football starts in just a few weeks!

All you have to do is head on over to ESPN.com and register. Then simply click on this link to be taken to the Momspective II Fantasy Football Training League. If I see that fill up, I’ll add and update this post as I create leagues.

What I’ll do is send out twice weekly emails to all of you who register to play. One will be for the leagues only, with easy to understand updates on players and moves you might want to consider. The other will be a link to a weekly post I’ll write on this site, just talking about the awesomeness of us and what we’re all up to, with tips on how to play and understand both fantasy football and the sport itself. I’ll also be either gloating or bitching about the Carolina Panthers.

If any of you in the leagues ever want to guest post or toss me a quote with what you’re learning and how this is changing your life and/or relationships, just click on the contact button which will shoot me an email to let me know. I’m all about the candid posts, swearing is allowed and feel free to smack talk the shit out of each other via league emails and whatnot. The true core of football and fun of fantasy football is the release of aggression and joy of making fun of the teams and players throughout the season.

For instance, Tony Romo and Tom Brady can suck my balls.

I’m going to start with some tips here about how to rank your players for the auto-draft for each league, taking place this Saturday, September 5, 2009. You don’t have to be present for the draft, it’s going to happen on it’s own but you can adjust your pre-draft player rankings if you don’t want the default one already set up for your team.

Let’s say you don’t want Adrian Peterson (the projected #1 pick overall) as your highest ranked player. You can simply click on “Edit Pre-Draft Player Rankings” in your team profile as I so expertly highlighted with my precision ability to draw a straight line below-

ranking

Now you can follow the simple instructions on the page it brings up to re-order your draft picks for the auto-draft. While this doesn’t mean you’ll GET that player, it means that when it’s your turn in the auto-draft it will go to the first available highest-ranked player you have listed.

If you choose not to do anything (I’m leaving mine as is for example, because I’m fine with the rankings ESPN has set up), you can just wait until after the draft is complete and take a look at your team Saturday evening or Sunday morning. The season starts Sunday, September 13, 2009 and you’ll have to decide who you want to play and who’s sitting on your virtual bench for week one.

Be sure to look for the letters next to the players on your team. Your player might be injured and unable to play. If someone ends up hurt and out for the season, you’ll want to trade him for another available player.

teamIf you click on the little note next to the letter (again, expertly highlighted by ME), you’ll get the details for that player. Q is questionable for the week, meaning it has yet to be determined. P means there’s a chance the player won’t play but it’s Probable that they will, but keep an eye on them. O means they’re out (check to see if it’s for that game or for longer in case you need to make a trade).

I promise you, this is going to be fun. Football is what you make of it. By playing fantasy football, you’re not only learning about the sport, you’re making it so you’re involved in more than just one team. While my loyalty is to the Panthers alone by playing fantasy football each year I’m constantly interested in the other various games played each week, because I want to see what my players are up to.

Playing fantasy football is also AWESOME for my relationship with my husband and friends. It’s cool to be a chick who can talk sports. It’s fun. It’s a “man’s game” (bullshit) and let me tell you, it impresses the hell out of a group of guys when they’re all talking the sport and you chime in with not only your opinion, but the ability to know what it is your talking about (beyond who it is they may be dating or if you like the color of their jerseys).

So I encourage all of you to join. While this is primarily for women, I know there are some men out there who want to learn and I’m not a dick, so you can join too. Just be prepared to have a woman kick your ass.
