A Kids CD that is ‘NOT for kids only’!

As a loyal deadhead who truly enjoys great music, I have a very hard time with what passes as children’s music. My kid is not stupid (Although he does eat dog food if we don’t watch him very closely) so he should not be listening to music that sounds as if it were recorded by a bunch of half wits with kazoos and a triangle. If you cringe every time your kid falls in love with a new song, this is your cd. Recorded in 1990, it is a collection of folk music combining the guitar mastery of Jerry Garcia, and the mandolin genius David Grisman. Most of the songs are traditional arrangements and a few of them I had never heard, but they grew quickly on me. My son loves the music. Our favorite song right now is a “Horse named Bill.”

Check it, you will love it, and so will the kids!

  1. “Jenny Jenkins” (Traditional) – 4:22
  2. “Freight Train” (Elizabeth Cotten)) – 5:20
  3. “A Horse Named Bill” (Traditional) – 3:04

  5. “When First Unto This Country” (Traditional) – 4:01
  6. “Arkansas Traveller” (Traditional) – 3:28
  7. “Hopalong Peter” (Traditional) – 2:37
  8. “Teddy Bears Picnic” (Traditional) – 4:26
  9. “There Ain’t No Bugs On Me” (Traditional) – 4:50
  10. “The Miller’s Will” (Traditional) – 3:09
  11. “Hot Corn, Cold Corn” (Traditional) – 4:02
  12. “A Shenandoah Lullaby” (Traditional) – 7:5

  • Dr. B. says:

I went to a Grateful Dead concert once. They played for five hours. Great song.

This was the only Kid’s Music CD that we bought. Of course, my kids also enjoyed the classic dead tunes. “Driving that train” goes well with “there ain’t no bugs on me.”

  • InstantAmber says:

This album was released in 1993 but it is timeless. Garcia and Grisman had a magical relationship and I think many people hear the word “Garcia” and imagine the two Grateful Dead songs that they actually know. Or they think about the stereotypical Dead Head.

This album is bluegrass, folk, and fun. Get it for you kids.

  • I haven’t heard this one yet but I’m sure B and I will add to our collection at some point in the furture!

will you wear blue oh my dear oh my dear…..You just keep getting better and better! We most definitely have this. I’m pretty sure I’ve heard it more than the kids have. LOL
