Wordful Wednesday – What’s your fondest holiday memory?
When I was a child, we would always celebrate Christmas on Christmas Eve and on Christmas day we always took a five hour drive to West Hartford, CT to visit my Grandmother. We didn’t celebrate it like most families would. Instead, my father, 3 siblings and I would make the holiday special by putting on various skits for my Grandparents each year.
Every year it was different. Sometimes we’d dress up like characters from Saturday Night Live (I remember once one brother was the “Church Lady” played by Dana Carvey and another dressed up like Ed Grimley”). My family always loved that show and watched it together every night. I’ve even started collecting the various DVD collections with the “Best Of” and complete season DVD’s available at Target.
We were the Partridge Family. It was so much fun. We’d decide what we wanted to sing and we’d play it live for my Grandparents. My father would play guitar (he can play anything, he’s amazing), my brother Mark the drum thing built into Grandma’s organ and Chris played keyboard.
Then we all sang. I LOVE to sing. I can’t remember exactly what I was singing but I assume it was about love and it looks like I was using a giant plastic bone as a microphone. I’m always going to Karaoke with my friends and sang in high school – went all State one year and all-county the other three. If it wasn’t for those Christmas’ singing with my family, I wouldn’t have had the confidence I need to sing in front of people all the time.
I really miss my Grandma. She could always make me laugh, although I don’t think she intended to. Getting together with my brothers, sister and daddy each year to put a smile on her face while we all worked together to sing songs (with harmony even!) gives me Christmas memories to cherish!

Great picture and memories. I love thinking about the Christmases I spent with my grandmother too. I miss her as well.

We (mom, dad, brother, sister & me) lived on the east coast while my parents families lived on the west so my parents always went extra big on Christmas. There were tons of toys (their families didn’t send things) and we spent all day playing with everything. Then my mom would make Christmas dinner. No matter how bad things were, Christmas was always great.

Now that your grandma’s passed away, it’s probably safe to tell you: she had a ‘thing’ with Tiger Woods.

Have a nice day!
That sounds like a lot of fun. Somehow those family get togethers are the fondest memories of all.
What a great memory! I can totally relate too! My sister and I used to put on “shows” to entertain our family too and we would do characters from SNL as well. We still bust out with the Sweeney Sisters every once in awhile.
