The Heat Is On

Da na na na na, Da na na na na! The heat is—-ON.

Yeah…I’ve been named the Carolina Panther’s ‘Fan of the Week‘ and I’m thrilled to have the title. There are some haters out there, though. I’ve gotten myself a nasty-gram or twenty since the Charlotte Observer released my ‘No Pants Sunday‘ article.

The article I wrote for the paper yesterday was an updated version of the original, and if you head on over to my ‘Step Two: Must Love Sports’ section, you’ll read more about my love for the Panthers, watching them Pants-less and my fantasy football league.

I was reading the post written about me by Panther Tracks, and then I read the comments. I mean, really, people. First off, why anonymous? You lose total cred if you bash someone and can’t even say your name.

spikechester1

It reminds me of Chester the terrier who smack talks next to his big dog, Spike. Using Anonymous is like using Spike as your protector. If you have something to say, stand up for yourself and don’t hide behind something.

Secondly, before you talk, think about what you’re going to say. Maybe even take the time to read the article, because the comments I saw were obviously written by people who didn’t read anything I’ve ever written.

“Nothing like a chick who has kids to not wear pants.”-

Well DUR-how do you think a ‘chick’ gets kids in the first place? HA! Ever hear of a SKIRT?

How come just because I’m a wife and mother, I can’t go pants-less? It’s not like I’m in the midst of a giant orgy here, I’m WATCHING FOOTBALL. I don’t have time to screw around, I’m too busy supporting my team. If I was single and childless, no one would even take notice. It’s simply because I’m a mother that people feel the need to talk.

My children are only 3 and 9 months. They follow me everywhere, they have to. They’re there when I shower, pee, get dressed. They could give a shit if they see their mom naked, so even if I was nude from the waist down for a game, they wouldn’t notice or care.

But I don’t do that. Unless it’s just me and my husband, I wear a skirt. I go commando, but I still wear a skirt. We try to get a sitter and beg people to not ask to come over on game day, and most everyone knows and respects our rules.

I was warned people would hate, but I’m more impressed with the support I’ve gotten in the past 2 days. I’ve been mentioned in print and on the radio, and even had a live interview with Tony Bruno on his national show ‘Into the Night’ on Sirius radio!

The big game is tonight and I can admit I’m nervous. I’m thankful that it’s a night game so the kids will be fast asleep and we’ll be loaded up with out Chips and Salsa and rarin’ to go. My pants will be off. I will be focused. If they lose, I don’t know how I’ll get over the devastation, but I don’t think they will.

I feel good about this game and great about our team. D-Will and the Daily Show (Williams and Stewart, those are the nicknames Ryan and I are going with) will bring on the hurt and get us a giant win.

If the weather continues to get worse, Warner’s going to have a hard time passing the ball. Delhomme may get some off to Muhammad or Smith, but the wonder twins will get us what we need. Well, that, and my lack of pants.

Viva No Pants Sunday Saturday!

Good post! My philosophy is live and let live. I don’t know why people have to be so hateful about things that doesn’t have anything to do with them in the least.

    Spike…*chuckle*…

Seriously? People have time to waste hating about that? Yeesh.

  • Dr. B. says:

Who interviewed you, Howard Stern? No wonder you got haters…he slimed you with double entendres and innuendoes, felt like I needed to take a shower after hearing him ( not you xxxoooxxx)

    Julie Reply:

@Dr. B., I thought he was funny. I’d LOVE if Howard Stern wanted an interview though…

  • On my laptop in the living room right now, and watching the game.

The Cardinals are taking it to the Panthers. The thing is, Carolina is not the type of team to score a lot of points quickly, so they will have a difficult time coming back. They are built to run the football, play great defense, and do well in the kicking game.

Unless the Cardinals turn the ball over a few times in the second half, this game looks to be about over.

I can tell you that I know absolutely zip about sports. That being said, it is completely ridiculous to ridicule someone without knowing the whole story, especially on a no pants issue. Women used to be scorned if they wore pants, and it’s not like they were going around in the buff! Kudos to you on your press, though, it sounds as though your letter/article has been taken well by the majority of the community. You go!

  • Stacy says:

Amen to Teresa’s comment – I live by the same philosophy, ‘live and let live’. Love the comparison of commenting ‘anonymous’ by hiding behind ‘Spike’! LOL!! Too true… ;) You did great on that interview, I thoroughly enjoyed it! :) Good Luck to the Panthers, hope they win for your sake! ;)

Too bad they let the Cardinals take the cake last night…congrats on the fan of the week prize

  • Mel says:

You are hilarious! Loved this post. And, you’ve convinced me…pants-less it is! I sense a fashion trend…:-)

  • Nancy says:

Wow – watched alot of the games yesterday – sorry your Carolina Panthers got beat – The Cardinals looked awesome, I have to say.

  • Eathan says:

Congrats on fan of the week! Better luck for the Panthers next year.

  • Mira says:

Congrats for being chosen Fan of the Week, but also sorry to hear that some coward commenters hiding behind anonymous name were so mean. Anyway, I’ve got an award for you to make your day ;-) http://mira-burns.blogspot.com/2009/01/noblesse-oblige-award.html
