Headed Home

Well, my 2 week “vacation” to visit family in Upstate NY has come to a close.  It seemed all I did the last few days was complain about Syracuse and wish myself back to the warm, sunny climate of Fort Mill, SC but now that it’s time to go I’m so sad to leave!

Another person sad to go is my 3 year old, Jake.  I went to a late dinner this evening with my best friend Vinnie and when I returned home, my mother took me aside to tell me about a very serious conversation she had with my son.

Before bed, Jacob suddenly got very sad and declared that he wasn’t leaving my mother.  I could go home without him and he is to remain in Syracuse by her side.  My mother told him she loves him and she’d miss him, too, but that they’d be able to see each other on the “puter” (web cam) and he’d be back in just 6 weeks for a 3 week stay through the holidays.

Looking up solemnly at my mother, Jacob said in earnest “But who will give me candy?  I know!  You can put Candy in an envelope and put a stamp on it and give it to the post man and mail it to me!”

My son, what a charmer.  Up until this point he had us all believing it was the companionship he so craved from my parents.  Now that the end is here the truth is revealed, it’s the candy.
