Fitness Friday – Stay Hydrated & Healthy With Gatorade G2

The Wii Mommies

It’s 8:30 in the morning and I just sat down to write this post and immediately decided I had to have another Gatorade G2 because I was SO thirsty.

The truth is, I am.  I just woke up.

I don’t quite know what the issue is with me, but I seem to be a medical mess and until it’s all figured out, I’m going to take various medications at various times throughout the day.

One of them makes me very dehydrated.  Especially given the amount I work out.

When I started taking this medication, it was like a crazy diuretic.  I didn’t have any weight loss from all of it, but I could tell I was dehydrated.  I actually measured the amount of water I drank daily because I read that a person can actually drink too much water, called “Water Intoxication” and well if I can’t have regular intoxication (I don’t drink alcohol) than I’m surely not getting water intoxication.

So what was happening to me was a constant thirst from both physical exertion and medication.   I was getting SO SICK of water and tried and liked the flavored waters like Propel but my friend advised me to try Gatorade since I’m a super active, very healthy (ish) Wii Mommy.

Well, you know me.  With the complete lack of patience I possess, I immediately took him to the store and made him show me what he meant.  I’ve never needed an electrolyte drink before and when I passed that part of the grocery store, I always sub-consciously wrote it off as the “man’s section”.

Holy matrimony, I was SHOCKED!

First off, I don’t like juice and from what I remembered of any formulated drinks, there was an odd taste/aftertaste to them.  Even before I drank water to the point of turning into a lake, water was all I drank but I’ve been watching what I eat (for the first time in a LONG time) and when I purchased a few bottles of Gatorade G2, it was like dessert for me.

THEN the good people at Gatorade happen to email me asking if I’d like to review their product.  UMM….YEAH!!  I had already been drinking it daily for WEEKS and you bet your sweet butt I’d love to get some more and review it!

Before I say more, here’s what Gatorade is saying -

Gatorade’s G2, a low-calorie sports drink with less than half the calories of Gatorade but all of the same hydration benefits, can keep you energized and hydrated for your workouts or sports activities. Through our research and understanding of athletes, we have learned that many have a negative perception of High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS).   Even though scientific research has shown that HFCS does not impact health or obesity, we understand the concerns, and HFCS has been removed from G2 to better address the needs of our consumers. And at only 20 calories per 8-oz, G2 is already a low-calorie option that active people can turn to for optimal hydration.

Additional details on the reformulated G2:

  • HFCS will be removed from all G2 moving forward.
  • The carbohydrate source in G2 will now be sucrose, which will fuel working muscles during activity to enhance athletic performance.

·         G2 provides an electrolyte blend that offers optimal hydration with 110 mg of sodium (per 8 oz) – the most important electrolyte for hydration – and carbohydrate levels designed to speed fluid absorption.

Those additional details listed above are the details I needed.  I had gained quite a bit of weight after this hysterectomy and it was all in roughly 30 days.  I’m FAR too vain to allow for that, especially as a Wii Mommies co-founder, so I’ve started working out like I did when I first lost the weight on the Wii (daily, for an hour) and I’m officially watching my carb intake, so I’m therefore miserable.

What I learned through my conversation with personal trainer Gerard Recio in LA is that I can’t completely avoid carbs if I’m working out.  I’m not going to get fit and healthy, I’m going to actually tear my muscles.  By drinking Gatorade G2, I was hydrating myself AND ensuring healthy carb intake for my workout.

Of course, as I stated before, I was sent this product for free to review but I’m being honest when I tell you I was already drinking it and continued to purchase it after I ran out of the samples offered for review.  I was not compensated in any way to write this review and I genuinely stand behind it’s effectiveness, because I KNOW it’s working.  My mouth isn’t so dry, my muscles aren’t sore and I have more energy than before so I have the motivation to get my fitness routine in.

That reminds me, I need to get another one lol.  I stocked up at the store last night.  As an added bonus, they were on sale, so I grabbed almost everything off the already ransacked shelf.
