Fitness Friday-My Routine
I posted this a few weeks back but took it down the same day and forgot to put it back up. Since I’ve been getting questions about my routine, I decided to head on back and make this my Fitness Friday post for the Wii Fit Mommies. Be sure to check out the site to sign Mr. Linky and read the featured post from Blogging Momma, it was simply inspiring!
When I first got my Wii Fit, I never even LOOKED at the Yoga or Strength games. My husband, on the other hand, went straight to Strength and said it was so effective, he was dropping his gym membership! I went right to the fun stuff. I played the soccer header, walked the tightrope, gave the hula hoops a whirl. For 11 weeks, I played the games every day until I unlocked every level and game.
Once I had played them all, I’d noticed that I’d lost 10 pounds. I was standing taller, my posture straighter. I was conscious of how I carried myself. Playing the balance games and taking the fitness test each day forced me to be more aware of everything I do.
After that 10 pound loss, I realized I had the drive to try something new. I decided to start working on all the games I hadn’t mastered in the Yoga and Strength Training. Every day, I’d start at the beginning. I’d go from the very first Yoga move to the last Strength one. If I had time left, I played some games, never missing the advanced (10 minute long!) hula hoop game.
I’m going to say this-just because my posture and balance improved doesn’t mean it’s good. I still can’t do most of the Yoga moves without leaning against the wall. I tried for the first 2 weeks to stand on the balance board in the middle of the room and spent most of the time swearing and falling instead of getting anything done.
Once I realized I should push the balance board against the wall everything changed. I relied on the wall to act as my crutch. Your trainer in the game advises you to lean on something if you need to. Take that advice.
I’d do the Tree Pose and have my back flush up against the wall. For the first time, I was actually performing the correct Yoga position and I felt it working! Each night, I’d notice a different part of me could feel myself changing. Before I knew it, the pounds were melting off and my clothes were getting too big!
Over time, I graduated to doing some of the poses on my own without help from my wall but like I said, I still have to rely on it. I’m not a graceful person by nature. I’d rather know I am doing the right move with help than doing the wrong move that could potentially cause me injury.
Before I knew it, I had shrunk. Years back, my friend Jennifer gave me a bunch of size 6 and 8′s from her closet, even though I was wearing 12′s and 14′s. I insisted one day they’d fit and have had them in a neat little pile at the top of my closet for years. I’ve moved twice and have never packed them away.
I’ll admit, throughout the years, I’d try to pull them on. I’d get as far as my knee or thigh and wouldn’t be able to pull them any further. One day a few months back, I had on my size 12′s and found them a bit baggy so I decided to dive into the pile to see if I had anything smaller that might fit. I didn’t see any 10′s so I went straight for the ‘Glory Pile’ and slid on a pair of what looked like brand new size 8 jeans and THEY FIT!
Oh, my gosh they fit! They fit, they fit, they fit!
Screaming, I ran down the stairs “LOOK AT MY BUTT! THEY FIT!”, to which my husband replied “Indeed they do!”
I was a size 8. Out of NOWHERE I went from a 12 to an 8 and completely skipped the 10. I swear, that had to be the single greatest moment next to giving birth to my children (and marrying my husband, of course) that has ever happened to me. Thinking about it now makes me want to cry (again).
I’d like to hear your Fitness Friday stories! What are you looking forward to with your Wii Fit? What are you nervous about? If you already have one, tell us about it! Great story. What an inspiration for us all to stick to our Wii Fit plans.
And I could have sworn I posted a comment before you took it down previously, or I could be hallucinating like I sometimes do. ;D
Great story about your going from 12 to 8!! I do yoga with video tapes right now, so maybe when the tapes get chewed up by the VCR, then I can convince dh that we need to get the Wii Fit.

@Teresa, you did, that old post had 5 comments on it that I didn’t move with it. HA!
That is marvelous! Congratulations, and it sounds like your enjoyed the exercise part. I am a size 8 now too after being up to a size 12. I lost mine working out at Fitworks though and it doesn’t seem like I had as much fun as you did. Maybe we’ll get a Wii next year. I haven’t heard of anyone yet who didn’t like it.
Question… when you say you went from the first yoga move to the last strength one, did you do each just one time, or multiple?

@Donna @ Way More Homemade, Each one one time. The more you do, the more levels open up and give you more time on each game. By the time I unlocked every stage, it took 55 minutes to get through all the yoga, strength and the 10 minutes of hula hoop
That size eight story is soooo inspirational to me!
Thanks for posting it for the world to see…
I played Wii over the holidays and thought of ya..
Glad you’re having fun.
That’s interesting.
I have heard more and more about people getting into shape with the Wii game system, but haven’t yet heard of a 10 pound wight loss. Good stuff.
You just gave me goosebumps. I have my size 8 clothes stored in the attic and haven’t seen them in years. This Wii Fit thing you crazy kids are playing sounds rewarding. Now to find the time to actually play it…
you rock for posting this! I know it sounds dorky, but you’re my inspiration to start working out on the Wii fit. I figure if a real honest to god person can do it and have such great success, then maybe there’s hope for me! My mother promised me a Wii fit only if I promised to lose at least 5 lbs a month, so I’m anxiously awaiting getting it and starting to work out. I can’t wait to work on the Yoga excercises!
I love this post – and you are the inspiration for my routine.
Thank you for starting this up, you rock!
Oh, and isn’t it AWESOME to go down in pants sizes?
One of the first places I gain weight is in my thighs, and I felt so huge when I was pregnant so it’s nice to be going down! And I’ve noticed since doing the hula hoop game that there is a lot less flab on my hips and thighs! YEEEEEES!
You do know if I hadn’t been inspired by you in the first place I probably would never have gotten a Wii Fit. HORROR OF HORRORS! I can’t even contemplate the idea.

@Lindsey@A Kindred Spirit’s Thoughts, I can’t tell you what that means to me, thanks so much!
That’s awesome that you got into your size 8 jeans! I can’t wait to get that wicked excited happy “show off my butt!” feeling! My goal is to get into my pre pregnancy clothes and I would be super excited (they are the clothes from when I lost 40 pounds before getting preggo a month later lol)!!! I have had them in my storage room for almost 4 years and refused to get rid of them. I also wear the same belt as back then (lol) and I am noticing I am going down notches in it! I can tell where I used to wear it, and once I am there again I will probably cry
I usually do the aerobics and that’s it but now I think I am going to turn the fit back on and try some yoga and strength training! Thanks for the inspiration!
What a great story! This definitely gives me lots of hope. Granted I’m a bit bigger than a 12 but I still have hope.
We’ve had the Wii Fit for a while, but starting yesterday I created a new Mii and started clean.
My first goal is unlocking everything. I can’t wait.
Its funny to think that I’m excited about this. I think this is a first.
Hi I recently have gained about 20 pounds. I turned 40 and kaboom everything went haywire. Ive been thinking of the wii and contemplating that purchase. I think your story has inspired me. Like Oprah says 2009 is the year to take back ourselves. To love ourselves again. Thanks and im going to buy myself a wii. Im doing it for me. Cathy in Green bay wisconsin..
I ordered my wii from kmart.com this morning!!! Ill keep you updated what happens when I receive it. Im soooo excited.
because of you i’m going to do this. thank you for posting what you did and how you did it. today was my day 1.
i’m wondering, when you started out, how long would you spend on the wii fit and what did you graduate to? in other words, did you start at a 1/2 hour a day then graduate to an hour?
also, it seems like your weight loss was rather rapid. can you provide some sort of a timeline you experienced?
again, thank you so much. i’m pumped and excited. i have 60 lbs i too want to desperately lose.

I worked out for 55 minutes a day and lost about ten pounds a month. I was determined, I never took a day off!
I have found that if you’re really looking to burn, you might want to try EA SPORTS Active. I like the Wii Fit to tone and love that it helped me lose, but it was an hour daily where Active asks for 4 days a week and I saw results.
Wow, that’s great. We purchased a Wii and Wii fit back in September and after playing the games, I didn’t feel like I was getting any benefit from it, and my weight stayed the same. Now reading your story, I think I’ll give it another go, and give it a real honest attempt every day. We actually just got the Wii fit Plus and we have the EA Sports Active, so there’s plenty for me to do. Thank you so much for posting your story. It was truly inspirational, and congrats on your weight loss success!
