Fitness Friday-How Heavy Are Your Clothes?
I thought I’d take a minute to talk to everyone about making sure your weight is consistent when using the Wii Fit Plus.
On your body test days, be conscious of what you’re wearing and how much you’re saying you weigh. After you step on the board and get your initial weight taken, it asks that you enter how heavy your clothes are.
If you’re standing on the board in jeans and a sweater, subtract -4 pounds from your weight. If you Wii Nude (it’s been done- by me anyway) then you’ll want to choose to subtract nothing (0). Typically, people work out in shorts and a tee and will only take off -2 pounds.
The key is to stay consistent with the your clothing types, or to be aware of how heavy your clothes are to accurately weigh yourself. You also want to try to do your body test around the same time every day, because your weight can change as much as 5 pounds in just one day.
Just remember not to judge to heavily on what your Wii Fit Plus says from one day to the next. Looking back at my weight loss graph, from day to day I didn’t feel like there was much of a difference happening but when I took it back to look at the big picture, there was a nice gradual line of weight loss that ultimately took me down nearly 60 pounds in less than a year!
Also, this is a total repeat from a year ago since I’m recovering from throat surgery, but it’s an awesome post and you really need to remember what you’re wearing. I seriously only weigh-in nude because I want to be accurate and I’m really, really creepy.

I’ve been working on doing my test at the same time everyday and it’s made a huge difference…Now I do see a downward trend, and not a random up and down. At least most of the time! And I also try to workout in the same thing every day, so that my progress can more easily be shown!

Yeah, that’s true. It could fluctuate 1 or 2 lbs just by the time of day or the cloths being different. The ‘noise’ in the data will sake out over a longer time.
See, I bet you thought I’d just say something about the Naked Wii reference… Well I didn’t. I’m not even going to mention it. I’m an adult! ;o)

Winter in Central NY – you can lose 60 pounds just getting undressed
My wife says these same things all the time. Weigh yourself at the same time (she does it in the morning) and subtract a pound or two if you have on shoes and clothes.
Me? As long as I can get my shorts on, I’m happy.

I can not stay consistant in my time of exercising or in my clothing choices….so even though I weight myself on the Wii fit….I do not use that weight to measure myself. For my fitness fridays and for my count I use my bathroom scale every friday morning before I eat breakfast. I recently have even started skipping this because I have heard before to not focus on how much you weight everyday…I find that sometimes it just makes me upset if I have gained a couple lbs in a day…or like last week got overly excited when I lost 4.5lbs in one day to gain 3.5 back the next…Yeah now I try not to pay much attention and try to focus more on the time I put in and paying attention to what I eat.

Excellent thinking, way to go!
Haha at Ryan’s comment! (See, he DID mention it…)
Anyway. I’m seeing a nice gradual line, too, that’s nice. Thanks for reminding us to pay attention to that! It means something! I tend to think, “That’s IT?” lol I want it to look like a cliff!

It really does make a difference to do your tests the same time of day – it’s more consistent then.
Great info, Julie!

I ditched the scale months ago; I only go by the tape measure these days. Scales tend to drive me batty.
