As you all know, I’ve been recovering from my operation by using the new game for the Nintendo DS, Personal Trainer: Walking.

I decided a few weeks ago to challenge my dog to see who takes more steps in a day and figured I’d met my match.  He’s seven years old and lazy as can be, so how could I not win against him?

What I didn’t count on was my husband.

Following my release from the hospital, I flew to Central New York with my children to stay at my mothers house for three weeks.  I left my husband alone with the dog in Charlotte with explicit instructions on what I needed him to do to track the dogs progress.

The only problem was that we only had one game and 2 activity meters.  In order to track the dogs progress, we had to get a second copy of the game for Ryan’s DSi.

Ryan became so interested in tracking our dogs progress that he decided to put an activity meter on himself and his best friend, Chad.  These guys apparently collectively decided to kick my ass.  Not only is Ryan making a point to walk absolutely everywhere, but he’s started walking my dog every day!

Nintendo, if you’re reading this, expect a thank you card from a black lab in the coming days.  I’m about positive that your game has made him the happiest dog on earth.  You should be seeing a paw print any time now.

I have personally taken over 20, 000 steps in the past two weeks.  I’m finally getting over 3000 steps a day.  I’m strutting around, so proud of my achievements and my husband calls me with a “I took 6000 steps today because T-Bone and I went for a walk!”

ARGH!  What are you doing?  You’re making me look bad!

Then you’ve got the other Wii Mommies, who are also counting their steps.  The first day a very pregnant Jenn took over 3000 steps!  My first day, I took like 900!

I know you’re all going to reassure me that I’m in recovery and am progressing the way I’m supposed to, and I understand that.  I just don’t like to LOSE.  I apparently have developed a competitive side in the past few years and can’t stand if I’m not number one.

That said, I woke up extra early this morning and have my activity meter on me and ready to go.  I plan on running errands and taking my kids to the park and joining friends for drinks this evening.  Me Vs. The Dog has turned itself into Me Vs. The Dog, My husband, his friend Chad and the Wii Mommies.  How’d that happen?!
