Fitness Friday – PT Walking, Doctor Approved!

fitness-friday-button-new

I know this is a Fitness Friday post, but I’m so excited I’m writing this on Tuesday (but you won’t see it until Friday he he he)!

As all of you may know, I suffered from a very bad case of pneumonia post-hysterectomy and even had to have a blood transfusion.  There were some scary times for me in the past few months and my road to recovery was sometimes slow because I have a tendency to overdo things.

Well, I just went for my final checkup to get chest x-rays and the pneumonia is completely gone.  All three quadrants that were infected.  My doctor asked me what I’ve been doing to get back in shape and I told her all about Nintendo’s Personal Trainer: Walking.

After telling my doctor about the game, I explained how my contest against my dog and then the Wii Mommies at Blogher has motivated me to take the stairs instead of the elevator (I’m terrified of escalators) and to not get the closest spot possible in the parking lot.  Since #PTwalking (as we call it on Twitter) tracks and logs your steps for up to five years, I can see how I’ve progressed upon my release from the hospital with 900 steps and got so high that one day I reached 10, 015 in one day!  I’m averaging 2,183 steps a day, which is close to the 3, 000 steps a day goal I’ve set for myself.

My doctor actually credited the determination in the goals I’ve set for myself with my great physical recovery.  I’ve been given clearance to get on the Wii Fit, which I plan on starting next week but have been advised to wait to get on EA SPORTS Active for about another month because I’m still healing inside and a high intensity workout isn’t what my body can handle at this point.

My scars are starting to fade and because of Personal Trainer: Walking, I’ve been finding myself outside more and getting a little sun so I have a nice healthy glow along with my fit body!

I’m going to start with some Wii Fit yoga and of course play a little soccer and hula hoops and I look forward to sharing all the progress I’m making as the Wii Mommies “Walk the Whrrl” starts in the coming weeks (details to be released soon)!
