Mom Dot Christmas of Dreams Day 1
Today is the first day of the MomDot Christmas of Dreams Blog Party, which will be running through November 27th, 2008, Sponsored by: La Belle Toile and This and That by Randi. To see more holiday photos of the past visit: MomDot Day 1!
Question of the day:
Introduce us to your family and share Holiday pics or videos of past years (Christmas, Hanukkah, Thanksgiving) .
Well, I’m Julie. Married to Ryan. Mother of Jacob and Joshua. My dog, Tribute, can be found in my last 2 Wordless Wednesdays. My cat Anya ran away, Apollo is the replacement cat and Hamstanya was the animal before Apollo initially purchased to replace the cat. No one’s going to like hearing this but I can’t stand Christmas. I love being with family but the whole Santa thing doesn’t fly with me. We’ve had a tree twice-Jake’s first Christmas (and it was totally fake) and last year we got a real one because I was 7 months pregnant with Josh and couldn’t travel to NY like we usually do. My mom has a HUGE tree complete with the train around it for the boys to enjoy, so I don’t feel the pressure to do much. The boys are so spoiled by everyone in the family (they’re the only babies on both sides) that we don’t buy them gifts. Never have. They don’t even notice. I asked Jake what he wanted and he replied, “Nothing. I have enough toys.” I’m not making that up. I don’t talk about Santa. If he asks I probably will just avoid the subject because I don’t want him crushing spirits at school like I did to all the kids when I was young. I’m not saying I’m a Grinch (Ry’s the same as me) I just like Christmas for what it really is-family, love and spirituality. Not money, presents and decorations. I’m excited to be sharing this holiday season with you all, you’ve grown into a great group of friends I’ll cherish forever. Happy Holidays!

I have pics with sick kids too. Bummer. One year, as we were leaving the house to have our holiday portraits taken, my one son threw a shovel at another and he had a big cut on his nose(and a story to tell later).
Poor sick baby
It drives me crazy how comercialized Christmas is! I think it’s absolutely wonderful that your children are learning that it’s about more than what presents they get!
awww, nothing wrose than sick babies during the holidays!!!
jake is an adorable little boy
Poor little guy. He looks so pitiful. I can’t believe you haven’t had to buy any presents yourself. That must be soooo nice!
Hi Julie… Love your blog.
Poor little Jake! We’ve experienced the same with my Jacob on Christmas day… so sad.
What a gorgeous family! We share the same thoughts on Christmas. It’s all about celebrating family
The pics are great! We are getting our Christmas pics done soon! Can’t wait!
Great pictures! I love the one of your little gut with the hat on holding the stuffed animal. You have a beautiful family. We are scaling way back on Christmas this year – it has gotten so out of hand with all of my family members. We are having weddings this year too so everyone is focused on saving for that.
I am trying to get our family away from so much commercialism at Christmas. It is hard though. But I am teaching my son that not all children will have what he has and that we are going to help another family who does not have as much as we do. He has already decided to buy the “other family” a dinosaur toy. Not quite what I was trying to get across to him but oh well
What a great perspective on the holidays! Your photos are wonderful. You can definitely tell he doesn’t feel well in the last one, poor thing!
LOve the picture of your family, Zoe was really sick for her first birthday we have some sad photos. I also like that you don’t do Santa. We do stockings, but no Santa yet, not sure if we will.
The one year it snowed here (it was called the “South Texas Christmas Miracle) I was sick as a dog with the flu. I went outside (with every other person in the state!) and played, but was coughing and hurting so much I had to go inside! The 26th it all started melting! My luck, the one time it snows and I’m sick.
My (long and rambling) point is, I can empathize with your little guy!
Wow, the women in your family are gorgeous!
hey, thanks for telling me about the person ripping off my site… I posted a blog about it, check it out: http://mostlybassackwards.blogspot.com/2008/11/ripped-off-by-loser.html I plan to participate in this momdot.com deal… I’ll post you when I do
I love the first one in the santa hat! How cute is that?
That first picture is just adorable! I love little kids in bibs!
Aww…Jacob’s first CHristmas is so cute…!
That first photo is to die for! I just love it! Happy Holidays!
Beautiful family! I love the names of your sons. And our dogs have similar names – well they begin with T. LOL. Mine is Tempest!
Thanks for stopping by my blog- and you can keep stopping by cause you’re right- it is probably a preview of your life in a few years
Great pictures! I totally agree with the whole Santa bit. My kids know there is no Santa but still like to make believe there is one, lol.:)
Michelle stood in front of the window and looks like she’s got devil horns. Merry Christmas.
Poor little guy being sick. My kids are sick right now and the look on their faces kill me. So Sad!
Great family pictures! That’s funny, my kids have told me that before too (we have enough toys). Not that they complain about getting presents, lol, but they have never been ones to want everything they see (well, other than Thomas trains).
I look forward to reading more of your Christmas posts!
Your family is beautiful!
I wish I could make Christmas more simple…but my family loves it big. As long as family is there, though, I’m pretty happy.
I love your boys’ names. If I had boys, those would have been their names.
