This Is How Cool I Am

lets-get-hammered-and-break-our-arm-004

Years ago, pre-kids, I used to work for the airlines. When I tell people that I automatically get the “Oh, you were a stewardess?”. No. I was a ground security coordinator, lead agent then supervisor on the ground. Also, flight attendants can’t stand being called stewardesses (FYI).

This means I worked on the ground, at the airport at the ticket counter, gate and baggage. I won employee of the year one year (shocker. If you know me AT ALL, you know I strive for greatness with everything I do. I didn’t even realize I did it until Sarah and Jenn pointed it out lol). I also flew for free.

Talking to a friend the other day, I got caught up in telling some of the stories of the adventures I’ve been on. I can’t believe I’ve been blogging for nearly a year (September 1st!) and I’ve never told my stories. Some of them are a little on the crazy side (okay, MOST of them are) and a few were just good times I’d like to share.

One thing I will tell you, I am a shitty tourist. I’ve flown about half the world and never even brought a camera. I usually sleep most of the day and get my exploring in at night, and night-time Julie doesn’t like cameras unless Michele’s taking the picure.

I’m not going to tell any to you today, but I’ll gloss over some of the places I’ve been. When I started at Continental, I decided to hit all 50 states and then work my way across this side of the world before hitting Europe and Asia.

Hit the states I did. I have been to nearly every state in the US, including Alaska (LOVED) and Hawaii (not so much). I canoed in the rain forests of South America and slept in a hammock in Venezuela. There isn’t a beach in Mexico I haven’t set foot on and I found this random tiny island once (THAT is a story you’ll love) that I’ll never be able to find again.

I am one of the few and lucky who can say I have achieved every goal I ever made for myself as a kid. I married the perfect guy, live in the perfect house complete with cul de sac and neighbor’s you can only dream of. I took the time before having children to fly all over (most) of the world, designed my own engagement ring and now I’m getting paid to do what I love most-write. Also, I’m skinny. (*brag*)

I write all this from 35,000 feet as I fly from Charlotte to Syracuse. Even now that my airline days are over, I still travel at least every other month. Whether I’m headed to NY to see family or Kansas to see my best friend, I’m constantly on the go. I bring my kids with me most of the time now, unless it’s for work (or Kansas) but the adventures are always exciting and I look forward to sharing them with you!

Look for my first flashback this Thursday. I’m thinking I’ll start with Mexico. I must tell you, I was single and a wee bit wild, so expect swear words and sex. After all, what’s a good story without a little action?

Stay tuned!
