Fitness Friday – Me Vs. The Dog. Who Won?

fitness-friday-button-new

Well, I’ve been given clearance to work out again and I’m back on the road to a flat belly and nice butt.   My husband told me to take it easy and skip the hula hooping and maybe put off the next 30 day challenge, but I completely ignored him and worked out until my legs ached.

Fortunately, they didn’t ache TOO bad because I had help recovering.  Weeks back, I decided to challenge my dog to a Personal Trainer: Walking “walk off”.  We each wore an activity meter and checked our stats daily for six weeks.  It motivated me to get off my butt more, since I was really just feeling sorry for myself having  just had abdominal surgery.

It also really intrigued my husband.  So much so that he went and got a second copy of the game and gave a meter to his best friend.  Not only do they now take walks during their lunch breaks, but my husband has taken to coming home from work and WALKING MY DOG. (more…)

Fitness Friday – PT Walking, Doctor Approved!

fitness-friday-button-new

I know this is a Fitness Friday post, but I’m so excited I’m writing this on Tuesday (but you won’t see it until Friday he he he)!

As all of you may know, I suffered from a very bad case of pneumonia post-hysterectomy and even had to have a blood transfusion.  There were some scary times for me in the past few months and my road to recovery was sometimes slow because I have a tendency to overdo things.

Well, I just went for my final checkup to get chest x-rays and the pneumonia is completely gone.  All three quadrants that were infected.  My doctor asked me what I’ve been doing to get back in shape and I told her all about Nintendo’s Personal Trainer: Walking. (more…)

Fitness Friday – Thought I Lost My PTW. Whew!

fitness-friday-button-new

Okay, that’s it.  I’m addicted.  Never, not once in my life, would I think of myself as a fitness person.  Not once.  As a kid, I was just super skinny and in high school I called myself fat because it was what all the girls did but looking back I want to slap myself because I was HAWT.

I think that’s the reason I ended up gaining weight with my kids.  I always just assumed I’d be thin and stay that way without trying.  I was obviously wrong.

Since having my children, everyone knows I stay fit with the Wii.  Since having my operation, I’ve found I can also maintain my health and fitness using Nintendo’s Personal Trainer: Walking for the DS and DSi.

For the past few weeks, I’ve been challenging my dog, Tribute to a #PTwalking (to follow on Twitter) challenge.  Holy trending, Batman!  Just me talking about this challenge has opened up so many people to this awesome product!  Not only have the Wii Mommies started tracking their progress, but my husband and his best buddy are OBSESSED with it!  They get together every morning at work to track their stats together and while I’m using it for my recovery, Jenn is walking to maintain her health during pregnancy! (more…)

Fitness Friday – I’ve Got A New Way To Walk

I can’t believe how virtual fitness has changed my life.

First, the Wii Fit lost me 60 pounds. Then EA SPORTS Active took me down another 10. Now, because I’m recovering from an operation and can’t use those products for another 6 weeks,  so I’m using my Nintendo DS and Personal Trainer: Walking to stay fit and healthy.

When I first started my #MeVDog challenge (that’s the Twitter hashtag to follow the challenge), I didn’t realize the impact it would have on my family. I expected to be neck-in-neck with my lazy dog but have found that since my husband wanted in on the competition as well, I’m in the process of getting trampled on by the two of them with all of their “walking” and “paying attention to each other”. Way to go, Ryan. Make me look bad.

To top things off, my partners Jenn and Sarah from the Wii Mommies website and forums decided THEY want in! Now we have the #wiimoms hashtag for everyone in the world who uses Personal Trainer: Walking to use when they tweet their info (#PTWalking) and if you search that hashtag, you can clearly read that I, the idea behind all these challenges, am LOSING! (more…)

Fitness Friday – He’s WALKING The Dog?!

fitness-friday-button-new

As you all know, I’ve been recovering from my operation by using the new game for the Nintendo DS, Personal Trainer: Walking.

I decided a few weeks ago to challenge my dog to see who takes more steps in a day and figured I’d met my match.  He’s seven years old and lazy as can be, so how could I not win against him?

What I didn’t count on was my husband.

Following my release from the hospital, I flew to Central New York with my children to stay at my mothers house for three weeks.  I left my husband alone with the dog in Charlotte with explicit instructions on what I needed him to do to track the dogs progress. (more…)
