Put It Up On The Block

I was researching how to best explain how to use the Trading Block for your ESPN Fantasy Football league, and I found this YouTube video that explains it really well, so figured I’d put this up instead!

Improve Your Team Using the Waiver Wire

roster slots

WAIVER OVERVIEW
Waivers are the process by which owners can select from the pool of available players who are not on a team’s roster in the league. They may have been undrafted or dropped by owners. Owners can put a claim for that player, but must wait a specified amount of time until the waiver clears. The team that puts a claim on a player and has the better waiver priority number (closest to 1) will receive the player when waivers clear. An option of having waivers turned off is available, as well. All available players not on waivers are considered free agents.

The Bumbles Blog On Sports

I am SO PROUD of all the people in the Momspective Fantasy Football Training leagues.  I’m already getting my butt kicked (and kicking butt lol) and was very happy to hear from one of our league members.  Meet Molly and Andy from The Bumbles Blog.  Molly & Andy are big fans of spending time with their family and friends, taking sports or movies, and crossing places off their travel wish list. Although they do like to stay home with their cats too. Additionally, Molly has more of a passion for photography and books while Andy prefers to be Concert Boy instead, rocking out to his favorite music. The following is Molly’s take on Fantasy Football-

ON SPORTS ~ Life Is Just A Fantasy…

FantasyFB

I have always been a fan of football. Football provided me life lessons as a little girl by teaching me about the underdog, persistence, and that life, like sports, is not always fair. When I became a teenager I learned that football players were pretty damn hot, along with more life lessons about how working as a team is easier than going it alone, along with the pride felt in supporting your own. As a college student I found the experience of attending a professional game and got good lessons in humility and economics. And then, as an adult, I had sexism reinforced by none other than my own friends when they refused to admit me into their fantasy football league because I was a girl.

Screw that. This year, I am managing two fantasy football teams online in addition to participating in the same weekly football pick ‘em pool that I have been playing for as long as I’ve been employed. Andy, not being sexist, recommended me to the commissioner of his new online fantasy football league and happily I was welcomed to join. To make sure my 5 male opponents knew where I was coming from, I named my team “GiselleWearsThePants” in honor of New England Patriots’ Quarterback Tom Brady’s supermodel wife. Andy’s team name is “Brady Goes To Miami” reflecting the desire to see the Pats return to the Superbowl this year in Miami.

My other team is in an all-girl league run by Julie @ Momspective (it is open to both sexes but I believe in my particular division all teams are managed by women). Julie was not a fan of football but then her husband took the time to teach her the game and now they spend quality time together on Sundays. She participates in a Fantasy Football league with her neighbors and decided to try to convert other football widows into fans of the game themselves by setting up this online league through her blog. I named this team “Boston Babe” to show my regional leanings and because, who’s to say I’m not?

Okay, So You Have Your Team, Now What?

By now, most of you have already had your draft – except  the folks in Momspective III, which is now full, and if anyone does still want to join, I can form another league but I have to point out that those late leagues will miss week one, as I’m setting the auto-draft for the last available date ESPN has to offer.

Now just log back into the ESPN league you’re signed up for (you should have the information in your email if you’re not sure what I mean).  Take a look at the players you have to see what the auto-draft did for you.  What I’m going to do today is explain what we do next.

Take a look at my Momspective I draft team results.  What you see here is a screen shot of the team I ended up with. Feel free to click on the picture to open it full size.

I’m just going to take you through what you’re going to need to do before each week.  You can see in last week’s post the explanation of the importance of checking the letters next to your player’s names (P, Q and O) and it’s important to see that the team is divided into two sections.

Section one, on top, is the team you’re playing for that week – your starters. This is where your players actually score for you. The Bench is exactly that, it’s the players you’re choosing not to or unable to play for the week, their results for the week do not counts towards your weeks game and the points they accrue that week will not give you any points since they are not being played.  If you want to take someone off the bench, simply click “move” and it will highlight where you can move that player, so you’re moving the player into the correct available position.

In the second column, you’ll see what team your players are playing that week and what time the game is at.  Pay attention to that because as the season progresses, there will be games played on other days of the week besides Sunday and Monday. (It gets better. Click to continue reading…)

The Time Is Nigh – Last Chance To Get’Cho Fantasy On

football boys 002

Fantasy FOOTBALL.

…Pervs.

I am SO excited right now. I created the Momspective Fantasy Football Training League on ESPN.com and tweeted it a few weeks ago but went to Syracuse and figured no one registered. I JUST got home and went to go look to invite people and found the league to be full! I’ve decided to keep creating more until every woman who wants to learn the art of the game have had the chance to register. The only catch is that it has to be done before Saturday, September 12, 2009, because the pre-season is just about over and football starts in just a few weeks!

All you have to do is head on over to ESPN.com and register. Then simply click on this link to be taken to the Momspective II Fantasy Football Training League. If I see that fill up, I’ll add and update this post as I create leagues.

What I’ll do is send out twice weekly emails to all of you who register to play. One will be for the leagues only, with easy to understand updates on players and moves you might want to consider. The other will be a link to a weekly post I’ll write on this site, just talking about the awesomeness of us and what we’re all up to, with tips on how to play and understand both fantasy football and the sport itself. I’ll also be either gloating or bitching about the Carolina Panthers.

If any of you in the leagues ever want to guest post or toss me a quote with what you’re learning and how this is changing your life and/or relationships, just click on the contact button which will shoot me an email to let me know. I’m all about the candid posts, swearing is allowed and feel free to smack talk the shit out of each other via league emails and whatnot. The true core of football and fun of fantasy football is the release of aggression and joy of making fun of the teams and players throughout the season.

For instance, Tony Romo and Tom Brady can suck my balls. (It gets better. Click to continue reading…)
