I Wish I Was Canadian – Thursday Thirteen

Yeah. All the best things come from Canada. I’m from Upstate NY, so it’s basically Canada, only with shitty health insurance.
Here’s a list of why I want to be Canadian -
- Pretty much the entire cast of cool people from the old school “Saturday Night Live” episodes are from there. Here’s a list compliments of Wikipedia.
- They say “Ay” and “Aboot”
- Alanis Morrissette and Rush are from there. I like the song “Tom Sawyer”, it reminds me of my friend Sarah.
- It’s vast. I like big things. I’m excessive.
- It’s really close to Alaska. I had a REALLY good time in Alaska.
- I think “Mounties” is a funny word.
- Vancouver. Two reasons – EA SPORTS and it’s like Amsterdam.
- They like British shit and also speak French.
- Phantom is better in Toronto over New York.
- Keely is there.
- They’re REALLY friggin’ nice there.
- I loved SCTV and Kids In The Hall.
- Canada Dry Ginger Ale.
Sure, there are things that make Canada suck, like Celene Dion, Canadian Bacon (A.K.A. “Ham”) and the Barenaked Ladies, but the good far outweighs the bad, making Canada one great place to try to visit from time to time.

I really want to see Vancouver – we’ve got online buddies there. I had no idea Toronto was such a metropolis – it was a fun place. Montreal was pretty cool, but Quebec was my favorite. I also need to get to PEI some day. And all that awesome wilderness throughout. I keep threatening to move there everytime a Republican finds their way into the Presidency. Looks like I can keep my citizenship in the US for a few more years.
In honor of Canada I will no longer refer to it as America’s comb over. (Does anyone else think that Canada just cut ham into a circle and called it bacon?)
Well yeah, come on up!!!

All very well considered reasons for wanting to be Canadian. Particularly Canada Dry Ginger Ale. Really what more reason do you need?

I loved this one. Of course, I’m Canadian.
You are so funny. How about they get 50 weeks maternity leave or something like that. Isn’t that crazy? But I could be wrong so I apologize if this is wrong information.
I really like all the Canadians that I know too. They definitely know how to have fun. Agree about Celine Dion and Canadian bacon, and I should add that I don’t understand Curling. Although it does seem to be the only cold weather sport that you can play while drinking without risking serious injury.

You know… I used to always participate in the Thursday Thirteen Meme… it was a favorite. I should probably start doing it again. We’ll see…
I live in Minnesota. We are almost Canadians
Dontcha Know?
Happy Thursday!
I too love (almost) all things Canadian!! I agree 100% with all 13 on your list. I’m not nearly as close to the border, about 3 hours, but it’s nice to know I’m within driving distance of such an awesome place!

the Tour Manager and I once went to Windsor together. We were mistaken for Canadians. We were flattered.

Well, then, you should love me: a Canajun from Vancouver!
Et, oui, nous parlons francais, mais seulement au Quebec. Gawd, the sorely tested my highschool French.

Yeah, but I didn’t diss you! MWAH!
I am Canadian and I have never heard anyone ever say “aboot”…I have to say that drives me nuts! Also, “canadian bacon” is not bacon! Bacon comes in strips. I still don’t understand why ham is known as Canadian Bacon since I have never heard anyone call it that either.
Ugh..sometimes our stereotypes make us sound like dumbasses.
Haha. Take Care

Love Canada, honeymooned in Toronto, used to live just south of it in Upstate NY but I must come to the defense of the BareNaked Ladies. While I haven’t seen them live in a while they do a great show completed with a current tunes medley. Give them a second chance.

I know this is from a couple of weeks ago but I just read it (I’m catching up on your blog Julie) and WOW thank you for the compliments. I’m Canadian and I have to say I love Canada. My favorite thing about Canada is the one full year of maternity leave, LOVE IT! You’re right Felicia, we get 50 weeks with 55% of our pay. Makes me want to have ten kids, haha kidding!
