Fitness Friday – Breast Cancer Awareness & Yoplait

I never really knew much about Breast Cancer.  I of course know it exists and I know the generalities of it, but my focus has always been on Ovarian Cancer because it runs in my family and I’ve had problems with my lady parts my whole life (hence the hysterectomy).   I was VERY well endowed when I was younger and the birth and subsequent nursing of my first born brought my bra size up to a 36I cup.

That’s right – 36I (as in Icelandic).

My breasts were so big, Jacob broke a rib in utero because of the weight sitting on my rib cage.  I nursed him for a full year figuring I carried those puppies around for 14 years and I’d be damned if I wasn’t going to use ‘em.  My insurance paid for a reduction when Jake turned two and I happily reduced down to a D cup, which for me was super small.

It wasn’t until this year that I really thought about the disease and what it means.  I had one good friend with a scare and my Step-Aunt  was recently diagnosed and underwent surgery.

When Yoplait approached me to speak to Dr.Kristi Funk, a board-certified surgical breast specialist and an expert in minimally-invasive diagnostic and treatment methods for all types of breast disease, I was honored.  We’re going to feature the interview on The Wii Mommies Blog Talk Radio Show tomorrow at 1PM EST.

Dr. Funk is going to talk about the importance of early detection and breast cancer screening as well as share with our listeners why she believes the “Save Lids to Save Lives” campaign from Yoplait is making a difference in the fight against breast cancer.

From the Yoplait website-

Grab your spoons and start your grocery lists. Start looking for the pink lids in stores near you this fall. They’ll be on packages of Yoplait® so you can feel even better about eating your favorite flavors. Then just save ‘em, rinse ‘em, and mail ‘em in by December 31st, 2009.

Want to do more? Grab your friends and start your own team, or you can always join a team near you. The more lids, the merrier!

I remember sending lids in a few years ago and am thrilled that Yoplait is continuing this campaign to benefit the Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, the global leader of the breast cancer movement, having invested more than $1 billion since inception in 1982.  You can read more about the program on the Yoplait website.

I value what I’ve learned in the past month and am seeing so much wonderful support from this nation.  I’m seeing pink everywhere I go, including on the players in the NFL, which I think is fantastic.  I really hope you can take the time to join us live tomorrow, and please feel free to call in with your stories and talk to us on the show page’s chat room.  If you can’t join us live, feel free to listen to it anytime by heading to our show page or the Wii Mommies website to listen to the archived show!
